If anyone can bare listening to this guy swallow his spit for 20 mins, here's a sobering take on Ware that matches some of what we've been seeing. Hadn't had the energy to keep up with college ball, but I feel better about the pick knowing now that it was a high upside pick-- nothing to lose but our chains

Re: WELLCOME TO MIAMI MY SWEET GIANT.....KEL'EL WARE IS THE PICK!
Ware is all about the upside. He's a developmental big with a ton of tools to work with. The reality is that almost every 2-way big drafted is a developmental prospect that requires body, conditioning and skill development to get up to snuff for the NBA level. It should be expected that it takes a couple years for the reward to start being real.
Talented 2-way bigs drafted in the first round should be expected to be on a 2-3 year developmental path to becoming a steady contributor. Random tidbits based on this idea:
There have been 133 college big men (listed 6'11+ in college) drafted to the NBA since 2008. Out of those 133, only 32 (less than 1/4) had a season where they played more than 70% of their team's minutes (rough equivalent of around 30 mpg) as a freshman or sophomore.
When you shift it to first round picks only, the total pool of college big men (listed 6'11+ in college) drafted to the NBA since 2008 is 81 players. Only 23 of those had a season where they played more than 70% of their teams minutes as a freshman or sophomore (28%).
If we further shift the scope to only account for 7+ footers (listed in college), this is what we get:
- Drafted since 2008: 66 players total; 10 played 70%+ of team's minutes as fresh/soph [15%]
- First round picks since 2008: 42 players total; 8 played 70%+ of team's minutes as fresh/soph [19%]
This is all to add some color to the fact that the NBA giants typically take some additional developmental time before they can be full-time players. It's usually due to a combination of conditioning, body development, foul issues, skill development, court awareness, etc.
It's definitely encouraging that Ware hit that 70% of his team's total minutes as a Sophomore after a rocky freshman season. But the perspective should still be to expect it to take time for the big man things to get developed and ironed out before this 7 footer is ready to play extended NBA minutes and be a positive contributor to overall team basketball.

Good vid. Thanks for sharing. I actually like the Mo Bamba call out as a "cautionary tale" comparison and analysis a little better than any Whiteside comparisons (Bamba is the age that Hassan was when Miami scooped him off the trash heap). TBH he has clearly better touch and movement skills than both (but his movement is closer to Bamba's)
Side note: Can't help but laugh when I see how many bodies Ware is facing in the paint on those turnover clips. Indiana's floor spacing was abysmal.

Actually curious for some Jovic/Ware lineups too. Niko is a fantastic passer, he’d find him for lobs for sure.

Re: WELLCOME TO MIAMI MY SWEET GIANT.....KEL'EL WARE IS THE PICK!
From watching him, at least in character he reminds me of Tim Duncan in the way that Timmy never got too high or too low on the court, he always had the same baseline mood that never faltered. If Ware turns out like that and just half of Timmy's skills we got a legit one guys.
From the get, I think he's going to have a much tougher time getting the hooks off against stronger and bigger NBA bodies. He is fast for his size but will need to get used to NBA game speed. He's going to need to put on some weight to not get pushed around, but he has all the tools needed to be an all star if it all pans out. In fact if everyone pans out, our post Jimmy future looks pretty solid
A decent PG

I don’t know about the 40% from 3, but those summer league averages will be what he averages during the regular season 2-3 years from now if he stays healthy and keeps putting the work in.
Just like Jovic (who will probably have that 40% to go along with the 17-8-2 as soon as this season).

Feel like it's worth resurrecting this thread to track Ware's progress throughout the season in a consolidated place in addition to discussion in game threads and reg season thread.
