He was getting a a massive contract next summer regardless of how some want to try and spin it, he elected to take over $100M less to help the team and now it’s rumored Mikal is looking to do the same. Again, fuxk the Knicks Brunson and Mikal but you gotta respect it
That's what people thought about Isaiah Thomas.
Thomas was the worst defender in the league with a known massive hip issue that got him shipped off and Brunson is massive compared to IT which is saying a lot lol
Like I said, no matter how you try to spin it he did the Knicks a massive solid to try and win a championship while Jimmy is more worried about the money despite being 7 years older
I'm not saying what he did didn't help the Knicks but I think it's a little naive to think he didn't think about a possible injury ruining himself at a lot of money, if he were just 26 that's one thing, but he'll be 28 at the start of next season, 1 year of rehab from a major injury and then 1 year to get back to possible tip top shape puts him past 30 and that could have cost him more money than he possibly gave up.
I'd also like to toss in that Randle will be back, they added Bridges, they'll have a full season of OG so I'm expecting Brunson's shots per game to drop from the nearly 22 he got a game this year to somewhere around 17-18 and with that, less PPG and looking less likely a max guy. He was in a great situation last year, he probably won't ever get close to having that big of a role again.
It'll be very interesting to see how far he drops in the player rankings with the national media just because he won't get as many shots per game, it's crazy to me how much they emphases PPG over everything else, absolutely horrible defender, doesn't matter!
