QUIZ wrote:While I agree gom there’s also a risk in this kind of thinking. This is why we gave all those 4 years deals out in 2018. We thought we’d rehabilitated their careers and that the contracts would have positive value. The ended up not being true. Same could happen with Jae if we put ourselves in a position where we’re desperate to move him.
I agree Pat overpaid for Dion Waiters & James Johnson, but to be fair, the onus was on the players to perform. Waiters's ankle injury and the time required to rehabilitate was a disaster he compounded with his unprofessional behavior in the last season. James Johnson, too, never performed at the same level. Had they been signed for MLE values, though, we could have moved them much easier.
The real joke was Hassan, and I have nothing to say there. Whatever you say, you are probably right. His fat contract helped us get Butler in on the S&T though, so that's something too.
Even so, it's important to point out that we moved Waiters & JJ for the cost of only Winslow (which seems a lot less now because of his constant injuries) and still brought back players who were important in our run. Doesn't Pat get credit for the end of the deal or do we just look at one side?
My point is we needed the trade ballast JJ and Waiters provided and the Heat FO never despaired as much as the fans did. If we sign Meyers, Crowder, and Jones to moveable deals, I think we should applaud them. Just don't overpay.
