That's a great idea. He's definitely been a guy I've had my eye on to develop.

Wow this can be big.

Phx has ZERO need for Okafor, they're tanking hard. i see them buying him out, then him looking to join a contender.

Guess who's a contender that still has the miniMLE and can use a good defensive center? 8-)

Haha imagine going from having no Centers/ big men available, and the worst big men rotation in the league, to having Birdman, hopefully a healthy Oden and now Okafor.

It's almost too amazing to be true, but it's actually SUPER realistic IMO.

Wer'e the only Contender that can offer him :
1) Great City.
2)Starting Role, big minutes
3)Great chance for a championship
4)3.2 mil$ for first year, 3 years deal.

I would go absolutely bonkers if we can pull it off. Okafor is one of the best rebounders in the NBA today. Also a great defensive Center, Very smart, moves well, blocks shots, strong.

A rotation of Okafor + somewhat healthy Oden + Birdman will be one the best defensive/rebounding big men rotations in the entire NBA, i kid you not.

Our biggest weakness would actually become one of our strengths.

Bonkers.

I came here just to see if RexBoyWonder had posted on this topic yet;)

And yes, I agree that it is a possibility he gets bought out, though they may hold on to him for trade value.

Don't we have a full roster? Mason, Beasley and Oden take it to 15, I believe? Then we can't get him.

Would have to be at the expense of Mason, unless Micky wanted to go into his pockets and waive Lewis or JJ (assuming Pat can't dump Joel off on someone). Not sure Pat would convince Micky to sign a guy rehabbing a neck injury to the mini-MLE. Isn't that 10 mill to Mick with the lux tax?

He did in college. Saw him hit some 3s in Summer League. His stroke can use some slight improvement, and he's already Kevin Durant's age, but I see some potential for a serviceable NBA player in our system.

One more young PG prospect would be Kendall Marshall out of UNC who was just waived by Washington to clear their roster logjam. There's still hope for him, as the vision he exhibited in college had some thinking he was to be the next Jason Kidd. Not my word but others.

Dont see it. a 25 year old that couldn't rebound in college, not a good shooter from the line. pass.

We have no use for a non-shooting PG as long as Wade and LBJ are here. plus he can't defend, very bad fit.

We knew it was coming but it's offical now - we just cut Griffin and Hamiltom. Hopefully we'll see them again next year when we'll have a few open roster spots, i like their potential and we do need to get younger.

Roger Mason and Beasley take the last 2 spots, both are dont become fully guaranteed until Jan. 10

I disagree fellas, mainly because I wasn't referring to the main roster, but the SkyForce as development projects. I hope that clears my viewpoint up some.

Quote of the day
"They stayed in there until about 3 a.m. talking about the roster and the last few spots. At that point, I realized what we were doing. The next two-and-a-half hours, I'm sure we were just going to be arguing and talking in circles. I was just trying to be efficient with my weekend."

- Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, on bailing early during a weekend meeting with Pat Riley and the front-office staff on final roster cuts.

Interesting. Good to see Pat is thinking about the young prospects seriously. I think they're also thinking about possible buyouts we could snatch during the season.

Heat are a bit hampered with needing to guarantee contracts in January and the Luxury Tax impact on waiving players to free up a roster slot after that. Not the same as paralyzed. I like adding Oden, Beasley and Mason for the mixture of upside and depth at the guard position. You can't really fault acting on what's available immediately over what might happen in the future when you are in a win now situation.

I do wish they could have managed to leave a roster slot open going into the season with the mini-MLE in their pocket to take advantage of potential future opportunities. I don't think young prospects were a big part of the discussion. It probably started and ended with "We have Ennis stashed in Oz for zero dollars without having to give up a roster spot to stick him in the D-League and can call him up at anytime this year." I liked Griffin and even Hamilton might have developed into something eventually.

But the reality is neither of them would have any impact this year. Next year won't be such a numbers game as far as roster slot flexibility.

He'll never be a good fit with our personnel. We prefer PGs who can't run teams (his strength) but can shoot (his weakness).

Im not the biggest Hawes fan, but how would you feel about this trade :

Heat out : Joel Antoney + Rashard Lewis + Philly's own 2014 lottery protected draft pick that we own + 3 mil $.

Heat in : Spencer Hawes

We get a decent Center that can spreads the floor, he even hits some 3's. No doubt he's a big upgrade over Joel. We also get rid of Joel's contract for 2014-2015, which we need to do beacuse we'll need the cap space. Next year we could either keep Hawes usuing bird rights if he does well here or just let him go for nothing if we feel he's not needed.
