Alan Hahn alanhahn

Hearing Miami is close to completing a three-team deal to move Michael Beasley and get a trade exception back to open up more cap space.

He could be valuable alongside Wade/Lebron/Bosh. All of his negatives: not a true PG, doesn't penetrate and create for others, gambles defensively, would be masked, and his positives: good spot up shooter, good playing the passing lanes would be magnified. He really is a nice fit next to those guys.

and thats how we get Mike Miller (or a similar sized contract), the TPE for Beasley. Don't we also have another small one, maybe for the Quinn deal?

Hey quick stupid question. If we get a TPE (or what a trade exception is called) can we use all our cap space then use the TPE to trade for 125% player (i.e 5 *125% = 6.25) that would be insane.

Yeah i can see him working with the big 3. His lack of penetration has always worried me.

Really? Wow!!! So a Beasley trade for a TPE of his contract value basically opens up over $10 million in money to spend? Please tell me this is so.

If that is the case Riley is an absolutely genies ( he really does have a golden wanker)

So Wade, Lebron, Bosh @ 16.6 each
+ Chalmers @ 1m
JJ buy out @ 1.5
7 cap holds @ 500k = 3.5
= 55.8 right?
Leaves us at 2.3

... AMIRTE??? lol probably not but sure one of you math / cap guru's can figure it out.

And we also would have that TPE for 6.25 player any centers fit that bill?

I would totally start Mike Miller alongside Lebron and Wade if we had all 3, I can't believe people would want to start SuperNintendo Chalmers instead.

1- Riley was the guy who said a few years back that he'd love to coach a team of guys 6'8-6'10 who could all shot and pass

2- Mike Miller is just a flat-out better player than Chalmers

3- Between Wade and Lebron, we'd already have more than enough handles/play-making, and Miller can also bring the ball up the court when those two aren't

4- The matchup problems would be sick, you'd have either Wade posting up opposing PGs constantly, or 6'8 Miller shooting 50% from 3 over the top of little 6'0 guys

5- Does anyone think the Bulls were ill-served in starting Ron Harper as their "point guard" for their second 3peat?

Yeah, I believe the idea of getting Miller would be to catch passes from James/Wade.

Unfortunately, not the case. We can only exceed the TPE by 100K:

In some cases, teams have up to one year to acquire the replacement player(s) to complete a trade. These trades are considered non-simultaneous trades. In a non-simultaneous trade, a team can only acquire up to 100% plus $100,000 of the salary it gives up (as opposed to 125% plus $100,000 in a simultaneous trade). A trade in which more than one player is traded away can only be simultaneous; non-simultaneous trades are allowed only when a single player is traded away (although teams can sometimes find ways to configure multi-player trades as multiple single-player trades which are non-simultaneous).

Here is an example of a non-simultaneous trade: a team trades away a $2 million player for a $1 million player. Sometime in the next year, they trade a draft pick (with zero trade value itself) for a $1.1 million player to complete the earlier trade. They ended up acquiring $2.1 million in salary for their $2 million player -- they just didn't do it all at once, or even necessarily with the same trading partner.

definitely NO.

Any exceptions are added to your cap number IF you are under the cap. So no we cannot sign to the cap and then use the TPE. Our total cap figure will be reduced by the TPE.

Thanks Mopper
so 5ish million dollar player at center.

Too bad that 125% rule would have been handy.

I'm with you, but keep in mind that the triangle is an offense that doesn't require a true/traditional PG. In fact, it generally works better without one. We won't be running the triangle though.

I think I'd actually prefer Miller off the bench, if for no other reason than the fact that he'd be a great anchor for the 2nd team. Let Chalmers "start" and play 20-25 minutes, that's fine with me.

Who would we have off the bench...

Chalmers would provide 3pt shooting and defense. which is all we need him to do...

Mike Miller would be instant off the bench when 2 of the 3 stars are on the bench.

I'd rather have chalmers start and use Miller as the 6th man.
