Harden only asking to go to the Clippers and LA not wanting to bid against themselves and the national media seems to be good with this while Lillard asking for just Miami was the worst thing in basketball and how dare the Heat not give up tons for Lillard. It's crazy how much made-up narratives there are in the NBA and how different teams are treated differently in the media.
Lillard was the Golden Boy/hero for the victims in Portland and we were the villains trying to poach him.
Harden is the villain and the golden city of LA is the hero trying to save the Sixers from being victimized by trying to take their villain off their hands and still give them something in return.
All good stories/narratives need someone to be the hero, villain, and victim.
National media loves to always peg us as the villain, and Lillard liked to be perceived as the hero, making Portland the victim by process of elimination. Had Lillard truly made it public what Portland was doing and saying, perhaps we would have not been made out to be the villains and that honor would have gone to Portland.
