Warning to the Bulls. Rose is a risk. He CAN'T SHOOT.
He's been overhyped by the lore of the point guard, between Nash's MVPs and Chris Paul's ascension. Reminds me of the trap the Pistons got into 5 years ago, thinking they found the next Dirk, instead it was just Darko Milicic. Or 5 years before that, when the Clippers picked Michael Olowokandi, hoping to find the next great center, instead...you know the rest. The next pick in 03 was Carmelo. And in 98 was Bibby. Those would have been nice for both teams.
The Bulls will pick Rose. Next pick is Beasley. Looks like the pattern will continue.
Rose won't be the best player in this draft. Beasley is the real mega-star, as people recognized long before Rose made people notice him during the NCAA tourney. Then everyone forgot about Beasley's dominance. Once the Bulls pick Rose, they will have to make a decision with their other three point guards, three of the better point guards in the league, mind you. Hinrich has an ugly, too-large contract. I don't see why anyone would trade for him with a contract that big. I am very interested to see how that will play out. Then there's Duhon the defensive-minded 3-pt shooter. Duhon will probably just walk and get a nice MLE deal somewhere (Miami, perhaps). That leaves Ben Gordon. A hero who helped this team escape from the baby Bulls era. Unfortunately, his contract is too small to get anything of equal value, since he would otherwise get 10+ mil a year. And Gordon said he wants out.
I think a backcourt of Rose and Gordon would work well. It would be terribly undersized and get creamed on defense, but offensively would be fierce. It won't happen because Gordon does not want to share the spotlight, especially since this upcoming season he will want to be in the spotlight in this contract year.
In summary, your best shooter is Gordon. You are going to lose him this summer. You are replacing him with Rose. Who can't shoot. Your next priority is finding a power presence. When it's all said and done, your shooting (which, trust me, as a Heat fan I saw this first hand, was your bread and butter), is severely damaged.
The only perimeter player I've ever seen who can't shoot but can still be the best player on the court and lead a team to glory is Wade. And he is of a rare breed. Look at who is winning: Pierce/Garnett/Allen are all shooters. Ginobili and Parker are big time shooters. Billups and Hamilton. Kobe. All since 2000. All can shoot the hell out of the ball.
Look who isn't winning: Jason Kidd--can't shoot, despite 2 Finals appearances and a trade to a title contender. The Cavs couldn't shoot. (And guess who amazingly accepted the king of not being able to shoot, Larry Hughes, from the Cavs in a trade. Hmmm.)
This is a hard choice for the Bulls. Especially with the media making Rose seem like the obvious choice (after almost a year of saying Beasley is the obvious choice). But when I look at this, I wonder how the Bulls could pass up Beasley, who is a sure thing. Miami is in full-blown rebuilding mode. We have the luxury of not having to make this extremely tough decision. The Bulls are in a much different situation, but who they pick determines whether their team gets torn apart with trades or just adds a smart piece to the puzzle that not only fits a need but will be a superstar in that position (PF). It was only a couple of years ago the Bulls took down the defending champs with a rising star in Gordon and Hinrich (USA team) in the backcourt. The Bulls were close to being a leading eastern conference team. Now you are banking in a huge way on Rose to be as good as that, or as you hope, even better. But right now, Rose can't shoot. Beasley can. And at 19, and some time under Bob McAdoo and hopefully another inch or more of growth, he will be a 6'9/6'10 versatile PF who can play anywhere and shoot. And he will team with Wade. (

) Then there's Rose. Think: glorified Devin Harris with better PG skills. Big risk. Big mistake.
As I said...

It's a TRAP.
