BUT....

Beasley's value is not going to drop over the next couple of months. I don't understand the need to trade picks when we can take the best player available (Beasley) and then look at trades from every team in the league over the next few weeks.

True but does it make sense if you are losing Beasley AND Marion? That is your #2 and #3 options for a #2 option and a good draft prospect only. I am not sure that is a smart move.

How do we know we're even offering Marion? I think if we were offering Marion and 2 for Brand and 7 straight up the deal would already be done (short of waiting to see if Chicago passing on Rose).

We DON'T know anything but like everything else we've been discussing since the lottery, there is speculations that Marion+2 for Brand +7 is a possibility. Don't get me wrong, there is some appeal to that deal because of Brand but after reading it over and over, I just think Beasley+Marion is a better combo than Brand+Westbrook/Lopez etc... even as trade assets. Now if LA takes back Blount somehow and give us expirings (Livingston and Knight) and swap 2nd rounders then it is a done deal.
We would then have cap room next season to get players to fill the rest of the roster or find that 3rd option or use as trade assets for a 3rd option.

that is true.

the argument goes, Beasley's trade value will actually be better a year from now because we will know how good of a player he will be

I think the problem is teams aren't going to wait around and stop everything they're doing with their draft picks for months on end to see if we want to make a trade. Teams want to be set by the end of free agency which is in what, a month? So that would take out a lot of the trades that involve trading down.

fans are so adorable :) from Chad Fraud's online chat

Ric Andrews (Lindenhurst, IL): Chad, What would the Bulls have to give up for Wade? Would the #1 pick be necessary, or could they get a deal done without it?

In 09 Marion is coming off the books then you can get Brand.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, I beg you riley keep Beasly!!!

What if we can keep our cap space add Brand and the #7 pick? (IE Blount+Banks+#2 for Brand+7)?

The thing is, at least IMO, that we don't have a championship level team even with Brand. I don't think they give us Brand unless we include Marion. We don't have enough depth to win a title and we don't have a championship level PG or C.

If you take Mayo or Beasley this year, let Marion go next year and sign Brand/Boozer, the roster is much stronger and alot more filled out. Wade-Beasley-Brand/Boozer or Mayo-Wade-Brand/Boozer is much better going forward, and considering we don't have a team to win a championship this year, going forward is what we have to look towards. That's just my opinion.

How come Corey Maggette's name isnt being thrown into these deals. If Marion goes then we have a hole that needs to be filled at the three spot.

C Brook Lopez????
PF Elton Brand
SF Corey Maggette
SG Dwayne Wade
PG D.J. Augustin?????

I just don't get the infatuation with dealing the pick.

Beasley is the equivalent of what Carmelo Anthony was in 2003 and Kevin Durant was last year. In either year, had we been in position to select either one of those guys, we would not have traded the pick.

I just cant get over us dealing a 20 year old guy that can be like Brand for a player whos 30, coming off a torn achilles (Brand).

I just dont like it at all.

I'm right with you. You can't build a team any better then starting with a finals MVP that's 26 years old and a 20 year old PF who has the potential to be a superstar- top 10 player in this game. I just do not get it at all.

#2+Marion for #7+Brand?!

Post#92 » by Ming Kong! » Thu Jun 26, 2008 5:15 pm

That seems like a terrible deal for the Heat if you ask me. I think Marion and Brand are on a similar level skills wise, and Brand is very injury prone. I think you guys could get a much better player like Boozer + their 2010 Unprotected NYK pick for #2 and Marion.

Imagine in a pair of seasons how could they could become if you just wait to see what the 2010 pick brings along. I mean, lets face it, the Knicks aren't going to get a whole lot better. As for the Jazz, well there are tons of posibilities:

Draft Beasley:

Okur
Beasley/Millsap
Marion/Kirilenko
Brewer
Williams

Draft Mayo:
Okur
Kirilenko/Millsap
Marion
Mayo
Williams

One way or another the Jazz would probably get rid of Marion or Kirilenko's contract.

no thanks, we'd have no frontline, and Redd becomes a max salary 6th man?

I'm with you. All this trade talk just sucks. We're staring at the kid who just had one of the most impressive seasons in college history. The top picks like the Darkos, Marvin Williams etc... they were all drafted based on upside without a lot of actual accomplishment at the time. Bogut was a nice college player with great size but not really a flat out dominating presence in college either. For comparison Bogut put up 13 and 10 as a fresh (compared to Beasley's 26 and 12). Beasley is not like some of these other picks, he just owned college basketball as a freshman. Paxson looks like he might actually be dumb enough to pass on this guy... I'm just hoping Riley isn't losing his edge and going down the same path.

It's a Bulls fan, what can you do but just shake your head and move on. I mean no one on their roster has achieved jack in how many years and yet they think the world of them. I saw someone on their forum post that maybe teams just don't value their players as much as they do (in reference to why there hasn't been a lot of trade activity) and it was like "wow one of them finally gets it".

I think someone is going to get traded. It could be Beasley or Marion, or both.

I doubt Riley doesn't make at least one big move.

Trade Marion if you have too, just not Beasley. He just has too much potential to trade away for a guy that could be signed in another year. I just don't get it.

I assume Redd would play the 3 as he has at times in the past, but you'd still have no frontline. It's been posted as a rumor on our board as being from 'two sources that work for teams in the nba'.
