We obviously won’t off load all our young talent. What’s a realistic offer that they may consider ?

Agreed. I’m an eternal optimist (despite my shtick here), so I’m holding out hope they will do something, but man, things are looking rough and I just don’t see a move that can make a difference. A rebuild would be the logical thing to do.

Summer league should be fun, though.

The problem is he wants to get paid. We dont even have capspace next year so unless he is willing to sign for the tax paying MLE instead of getting a max 4 year 202 mil deal. I know im laughing even typing that, it's that absurd to even write it. This is what our offseason has become lol.

If we trade for him… doesn’t matter…. we can sign him over the cap. The real question is if he is worth a max…?

Trade Jimmy to get the assets for Lauri and lock up our star front court for the next 7-8 years. Would be incredibly straightforward to build around Lauri and Bam because you could plug literally any third star next to them and the fit is seamless.

Will never happen, though.

He really is a best case scenario fit next to Bam. If you can get Lauri you do it.

The unfortunate part is it’s probably going to cost all our assets

Herro, JJJ, Jovic, 3031 unprotected, 2026 2nd, 3030 pick swap

We’d probably either need to find a way to unprotect the OKC or Charlotte pick

I honestly don’t see anything in Lauri’s game that Jovic can’t develop.

He’s a good perimeter shooter but he’s not a guy that fills what this team needs; a person you can throw the ball to and let him get you a bucket.

A 25ppg~ 27 year old PF who nearly hit 50/40/90 in b2b seasons on 7-8 attempts from 3 per game is worth every asset we have, certainly. Especially in the context of getting a star PF who can play with Bam.

It took Markkanen 6 seasons and 3 different teams/coaching staffs before he developed and was utilized in a way he could be an impact scorer. Lots of players have the ability to be very good, few develop/figure it out/get put in the right role or situation to be impact players in the NBA. It's this type of somewhat randomness that made me really like Miami's decision to move draft picks for proven players.

Markannen is a fine player I think, but quickly getting overrated on this board. I'll keep taking at bats with Jimmy before "building around" a duo of Lauri and Bam. Neither one of those dudes is a superstar.

Here's a difference maker, is he an issue on the defensive side, yes, but the zones Spoelstra runs would help with that. I would love to see how the offense runs with him, Bam and Jaquez Jr (filling in lanes).

The point is how much easier it becomes to have the third guy when you don't need to find a specific type of star since Jimmy and Bam can't shoot lol

Well that's why Utah is open to moving him. Utah is trying to do an OKC type rebuild, but Lauri is no SGA. Plus Lauri is two years older at 27. Utah knows he's not a superstar to build a team around but he's too good to allow Utah to go full tank mode in this draft, especially with Collins and Sexton etc. So they keep winning games that Ainge probably doesn't really want them winning.

So Utah is in this weird area and they need pick a lane.

Lauri is also not Jimmy, but he fits next to Bam far better than Jimmy does. Ideally you have all 3. Lauri is what best case Niko looks like. And 50-40-90 7ft forwards are incredibly valuable and Lauri absolutely did turn into a bucket getter to close out games or in tough spots when you need a bucket last couple years with Utah.

None of this matters. If we had traded Jimmy to Philly for picks, you can trade those picks plus herro for a Donovan or Lauri and then get Derozan or a really good FA that wants to be here. Instead we run it back and keep hoping something falls into our lap.

Is he the peace that takes us to a title? I don't think so.

Yea I'm in agreement with you that it's tough to find the ideal piece to pair with two guys who want nothing to do with the 3 pt line but if Jimmy is being moved for assets it has to be for someone that comes in day one as bonafide first option. The assets left remaining after a Markannen deal would not be enough to obtain a legit #1. A core built around that duo may not be bad enough to truly bottom out in the East but the ceiling is nowhere near contention.

I understand his talent and his fit, but what Miami needs is an offensive talent that can get there own shot outside of an offensive set. Lauri isn’t that.

And given the money you have to pay him plus all the assets you have to give for him, he simply isn’t worth it.

A less talented player in Jovic has exactly what we need out of that position. Even without accounting for potential development.

I don't think Herro is viewed as an albatross contract. A lot of ppl like to trash him every chance they get but the reality is he's too good of a player to simply dump the way some fans want to, and if you're looking to acquire that impact player on a larger deal he has the contract to help make the math work. Regarding Duncan, if they had more picks they could shed him. Hell there's probably a trade they could make right now that involve taking a player back with similar money its probably a matter if they have the appetite to do that vs. waiting on something else to materialize.

Seems like an albatross in this nba economy. Not that he’s untradable but it’s close. 3 more years at 30 million per for a negative asset is a hard pill to swallow when most teams are showing major attention to detail when it comes to taking on large underperforming salaries like Herro

So the options here were trade Jimmy to Philly for picks to then use on Mitchell..even though he was never available, or use those picks from Jimmy trade to get Lauri and Derozan. Imma let you guys have this one because I think we're clearly at the point where we want to make trades just to make them.
