As a mere right-handed mortal, I've always felt there's just something inherently mesmerizing about watching someone take a lefty jumpshot. I've watched Chris Mullin, Lamar Odom, Kenny Anderson, Derrick Coleman, and countless other southpaws sink tons of jumpers, but I can never completely fathom the concept of it, it's like trying to rationalize the idea of something driving with their feet. I dunno, maybe it stems from the fact that even after years of attending basketball practice as a kid, I'm still physically incapable of making a fluid left-handed lay-up. As far as I'm concerned, lefty jumpshooters must use some kind of magic, or voodoo. It's the only explanation. Haha.

Pat Riley was in Miami yesterday. How do I know that? Because I saw him with my own two eyes with his wife across the street from Sunset Place...on his phone. Who he was talking to..thats for anyone to guess

Thats what most speculated, Pat Riley was here talking extention with Shawn Marion. Hopefully, He got pissed that Marion wanted alot of money and left to have dinner with his wife. I want Brand and i want Beasley.

It was during the day actually but thats moot I guess. I'm new to the site but ive been following the process very closely. I have maintained since the lottery that Beasley would be the pick here and that only became more magnified when Riley brought OJ Mayo into the conversation. In the history of Pat Riley Heat drafts, when has he ever tipped his hand. In 2002, it was all about Jared Jeffries and Qyntel Woods. In 2003 it was about Hinrich, Ford and Kaman. At the end of the day, he takes the best player available. The best player available last year was Dequan, he took him. The best player available in 2005 was Simien, he took him. Dorell was the only pick out of left field and look how that has frustrated Riley over the years he's been here. Beasley is the best player in the draft, let alone the best player available. The only way I see Beasley not being the pick is if a HUGE trade proposal (a la the Ray Allen deal last year) is presented itself and we are getting a PROVEN commodity back in return.

Anyone think we could try to acquire another first rounder and grab Deandre Jordan? The guy's stock is falling, but if he plays next to Beasley, he wouldn't be asked to do much more than play post defense/help defense, rebound, and dunk the ball when he's given the ball under the basket.

I would do Marion for Brand in a second. Hell we could probably land an all-star with #2 to go along with Wade and Brand AND add depth with the MLE. That being said I don't think the Clippers have any interest in a Marion for Brand swap.

To be honest I am getting more psyched about Beasley in a lot of ways.

Some of the videos and interviews have changed my mind about him. A lot of his attitude problems don't worry me much at all. The training video where he was getting drilled with the dunk set with the different weighted balls and everything (posted somewhere in this thread I think), combined with the interviews with his old coach about being the most willing and coachable kid and one of the most liked, as well as the quotes about wanting to be better than MJ and winning and all that, I do believe that when he's in the game he'll be playing hard, and be willing to work to improve.

Also his touch around the basket and strength combined with his handling has me more optimistic that his offense will translate and he'll draw a lot of fouls.

What I still am concerned about is his size and skill on defense. I don't know any player that has been known as mediocre as a defender at PF in college, then had size concerns at the next level and questions about translating it, and overcome all that to be a good defender. His body seems pretty streamlined too, I'm not sure he will bulk up terribly, he looks more wiry strong.

The rest of his game I'm warming to though.

This is really for Gametime. Let's just say he has been overly excited about the possibility of adding Sasha Kaun and trying to make the Heat into a team of Sasha's. For me, Danilovic was one too many. Anyway, Jon G reports on his blog that Kaun signed a deal in Russia and won't be playing in the NBA for the next few years.

-Sasha Kaun signed a 3-year contract with CSKA Moscow, as released on their their official website this weekend. Kaun may end up being the highest paid player on the Kansas Jayhawk championship team, as his salary will be similar to that of a late lottery pick next season. He has not shut the door on playing in the NBA down the road, as he has a comfortable buyout after the second year of his contract, which may even make him more attractive to a team drafting in the late second round.

Smart move by Sasha (Kaun). He is not ready to contribute at this level so he gets more money that he would earn here as the backup to the backup, get more experience overseas and improve his chances of getting drafted by a playoff team or a team with roster spots issues and multiple picks(Portland) who would gladly keep him overseas while securing his rights.

Just like Robert Duenas. That dude is ripe with skills, as long as he's been overseas.

He lives 5 mins from there. Lamar odom used to be there all the time, I saw him maybe 5-6 times. He knew who i was after the 3rd time. Wade used to be there but he sold his place in Pinecrest.

OT: I was saw Anthony Carter @ sunset, My friends knew i hated him and i wanted Rod Strickland to start over him, They all told me that i would never tell him that he sucks and gave me 20$ if i did, so i went up to carter and said" I just want you to know that i hope Strickland takes your spot and we trade you". Years later, i kinda feel bad about it but i may of been the reason he didnt want to opt in, He could not take the heat lol

Another day and more evidence that chimp ford reads ira's columns for ideas; no sooner does ira write about that hideous trade idea with Sonics ( i almost lost my lunch when i read the details) that chimpy forgets about that memphis trade for miller (also on ira's column) and now writes on his updated mock draft about a "new rumor" :D involving the sonics and heat. I hope ira just makes up a trade idea (beasley & blount to the bucks for Bogut and Mo Williams) before the draft just to see if chimpy picks up on it.

Ford's "latest rumor" has us trading Blount and #2 to Seattle for Wilcox and #4.
