2) Lockdown allows replenishment of resources and buys time. With that time, we can look at better treatments. That’s the goal of flattening the curve.

3) You have been drafted for the Hunger Games

1. Sure a vaccine is on the way, but like you said, 12 months to 18 months which is why I said it wasn't coming anytime soon (12-18 months isn't soon for a killer virus) and right smack in the middle... cold season where it could get much uglier than it can during the hot summer months. A lockdown for say, a few months isn't going to get us to the vaccine so we have to live with it until then, we can't lockdown this country for very long.

2. Lockdowns allow replenishment of resources and buy time, sure but there are adverse non-health related effects that will grow the longer we're locked down and when the lockdown is done, COVID-19 is just going to start spreading again, will we just lockdown again? It's a terrible situation with no good answers because not locking down has adverse effects and so does locking down. Personally I could handle being locked in since I'm essential personnel and can telecommunicate 100% of the time and have been doing that for weeks now. My family has taken this situation seriously since January, didn't know if it would get out of control but with the ease of long-range travel and people being way less considerate of other people thought there was a chance of this happening. I remember SARS in the early 2000s and taking similar precautions than too.

3. I couldn't care less.

And they're all outside thinking nothing is happening. SMH.

I can't find the whole convo, or at least it's not on Youtube, but I can't imagine any context where offering up kids to die in favor of the economy would be very sane.

I agree, but was he referring to 2-3% mortality for kids or for the generalized population? Also, is that an added 2-3% mortality or just the overall mortality? What is the expected mortality without kids in school? 30 second clips to make someone sound outlandish are what our present media environment is reduced to and the entire goal of those clips is to discredit someone as opposed to actual productive conversations.

This doc sounds like Dr_Heat  but from I could decipher he is saying that putting the entire kids back in school will end up in the increase of 2-3% of total mortality rate of the new coronavirus in the US. So he's talking about the trade offs between education and mostly old/vulnerable people dying. It's still  but it's conceivable that if we keep shutting everything down for a prolonged period of time more people will end up dying on the street or creating all kinds of chaos, like no in-class education until 2022 or some chit like that?

you saw the protest in Michigan bish? this is getting an extremely difficult situation for policy makers. it's not entirely inconceivable that a great depression will kill more people than this virus ever could?

in the meantime i just took an old Wii out of storage. Let's dance is a better way to pass down time than watching Fox news, which is the WOAT, but others like CNN and MSNBC are no bueno as well.

i like how this lady is very composed. hope for vaccine in fall for medical professionals, and next spring for everyone. probably too optimistic for fall ready, but it's encouraging to know that they have been somewhat ready for the moment. and that we don't have to worry too much about the virus mutating and we may not build up strong immunity to this virus, because it's somewhat expected and in line with other coronaviruses.

Financial despair is inevitable at this point, but health>wealth always. Which means doing everything possible to save as many lives as possible, especially those at risk.

Yup, and this is not an either/or situation to fix the economy or save people’s lives. If millions of people die in this country, that will massively hurt the economy, and it won’t be offset by letting people go shop at the mall again or eat out or whatever.

Don’t think people will be going about business as usual even if you let them anyways. I’d wager most people are going to be pretty reluctant to go places/spend money for several more months, if not longer
