What I took away from this is the possibility of teams calling us in Feb when the max contracts signed can be traded if they don't work out with the current teams. There is a possibility that someone is an awful fit on his new team and needs to be moved. We have a max contract (Bosh) that we can use in a trade that will get the other team out of the contract quicker. I think that will be the plan moving forward.
The question then becomes, who out of all the guys on longer than Bosh's contract will be tradable, that could fit our team come February?

Nobody is going to trade for Bosh's contract. He has another 3 years to go:
$23,741,060
$25,289,390
$26,837,720
Billy King's not in the NBA anymore.

Pat stated that Tyler Johnson was willing to take a different deal from the Heat but when the Heat talked to him, TJ said he could not go back on his word with Brooklyn. Pat went in depth and made himself look bad, so I do not see how you can say he is being cowardly.
Tyler's contract *now* doesn't enter into it. If we had the money for him in 3 years, then it was there for Wade too. All Wade wanted originally was a 3rd year. We could have given it to him, the same way that we are going to give it to Tyler in 3 years. We also had the choice of stretching McRoberts.
What I'm saying is cowardly is trying to frame this as some misunderstanding, inability to speak to Wade etc (when he hasn't actually even spoken to him yet - composing an email, oh really, give me a break!) It's a bitch move. If you are going to do something, just own it already. Don't be a wuss about it. It's disrespectful to everyone.
For whatever reason they made the decision that Wade was out. They made a tough choice. Maybe it was brinksmanship that went awry, but the circumstances don't matter. If he was in, he was in. He wasn't in anymore.
The 3rd year in Wade supposed contract is negligible. Opting out of the final year has become the norm in the NBA for quite some time now. The problem Riley was faced with was the second year in Wade's contract. It's apparent Riley wants as much cap flexibility as possible and that was a huge factor in not giving Wade that third year. Whether that was the correct decision is another debate. IMO i give Wade that 3rd year and ensure he stays.
Yes. Riley is all about having the flexibility for next year's whale hunt. We agree there. I also agree that giving Wade the third year was the better way to proceed.
JWG324 wrote:Also, Wade's third year would be about 5 million dollars more than Tyler, so they aren't very close.
But we'll have a higher salary cap and also McRoberts will come off that year. (Finally!) It could have been done. It was a choice not to do it.
JWG324 wrote:Plus, i truly believed TJ was signed to use him as a piece in a possible trade in the future. I doubt he stays the full 4 years here tbh.
I agree. If he plays well enough, there will be a market for him. It's a risk but not huge.
JWG324 wrote:I believe the decision to not stretch Mcroberts was made because he will be an expiring contract and will be a lot easier to trade. We may even be able to get some value, such as a 2nd round pick, if he performs adequately.
I'll believe this when I see it.
JWG324 wrote:Talking to Wade through his agent was disrespectful and that was his biggest regret.
^ It was a strategy. Remember how last year's negotiations were difficult? I do. The Heat moved on and they moved DWade on. I really feel bad for #3, but I'm confident he'll give his response on the court.

I would love Bosh off the bench in a limited role to work him slowly. Even if it's just backup Center minutes and no long trips or back to backs on the road. I'll take it
This is the worst-case scenario imo. I either want a max contract top 10 bigman in Bosh or I want his cap space next offseason
I agree but if doctor's clear him what are we supposed to do? No guarantee the NBA gives us the medical exemption when time comes. Our only hope is the amnesty clause in the new labor deal. So with that being said if the doctor's clear him with a certain plan then i would be happy seeing him on the court and on the bench teaching the kids even in a limited role it helps our depth for this year.

"I don’t think there’s any doubt we can compete for a playoff spot. You have to see who in the East really has what it makes to be competitive. It takes 20 to 30 games and then you get an idea who you are. Our plan is to always compete for a playoff spot and I don't think there's any doubt we can do that.
Coincidentally the 20-30 game mark is around December 15th when guys who signed new contracts are trade eligible too, I'm on team tank but I think the organization sees how it goes till December to get a sample size of of how the youth reacts to increased roles, Dragic, new signings etc. If there is a firesale to cash in for the full rebuild ideally it's late december, early january.

Hey even though we gave up those picks for nothing for the big three at least we've struck gold more so than a lot of teams in the past two years with Winslow falling to 10th, Jrich in the 2nd round round, TJ undrafted breakout, and Whiteside out of the Dleague.

Man the Bosh situation is gonna be so ugly. Especially with Henry Thomas as his agent, I anticipate Windbag to be the first to break some negative **** about it. I don't anticipate the players association being on our side for long with Wade's inner circle being the major union influence. Wade apparently wanted CB to come back during the playoffs.

"You sit down and talk to them and they will take a look at your roster and take a look at everything and talk to you about your future and draft picks and everything.... You better have all the space and the players or they're [the star players] are not coming. I don't think many free agents are going to leave good situations to go a team that has been gutted because you need to get rid of players to get them.

What are yall realistic best case scenarios? We all agree we aren't top tier contenders but how good is this team if everything breaks right in terms of health and player development?

This is just my personal speculation, but I'm not sure if this Bosh situation is something the PA really wants to get involved with either. They didn't really do much for him at the end of last season when he was trying to come back. They don't want to see Bosh risk his life (and deal with the possible consequences) as much as Miami doesn't.
Plus, pretty much the entire public opinion (media, Heat fans, non-Heat fans) wants Bosh to err on the side of caution when it comes to this situation. No one wants to see him risk his life, so it looks like most people will understand Miami's cautious approach to letting him come back.

No. This will become a player's association issue, and it won't be pretty. Our rivals will dump on us too no matter what we do. You can bet on that.
We need to err on caution for better motives. Bosh bleeding profusely on court would never be forgotten. It would be a PR nightmare. Nobody wants to help us out of the situation though. We need that amnesty clause. I wonder if they regret using it on Miller now... Stupid twats.
