Avery Johnson had the Mav within 5 minutes of winning game 3. The guy put them in the perfect position to win but they just cant do it. Avery johnson is a GREAT coach. Coachs are there to put the players in position to win the game but its still comes down to the players winning it. To say Riley outcoached him is a bit of a stretch. Riley did some good things and Wade went off. Remmber this is coming from a true heat fan and for me to give props to some1 its because they deserve it. Josh Howard = Overrated, Remmber finals and the last 2 years. Kidd is washed up And they got Eddie jones hahaha

Its the Eddie Jones curse!!!

I'd try to trade Marion to Portland for Frye/LaFrentz and there low lottery pick if possible. Ideally in this scenario we pick Rose.

Nice trade.

Who would the Heat pick with PLand's lotto pick? Assuming they're available.

My top two if we draft Rose would be Love or Randolph.

If Beasley then maybe Westbrook instead of Love.

My first choice, Thabeet, went back to school  . We'll just have to get him next year.

Marion for #1 or #2

Post#866 » by bigballajohn » Fri May 2, 2008 8:58 pm

If we got the #1 or #2 pick in the draft, could we trade marion and some fillers for the other pick so that we could get a solid base of Beasley and Rose

Rose
Wade
Wright
Beasley
Blount

Marion, Haslem, Banks, future 1st rounder, 2008 2nd rounder

it would depend who would get the other pick, but i think if memphis, minny, or seattle get the #2, we could get that pick, but if they get the #1, it would take more to get it. memphis would prolly trade the pick firstly cuz they have warrick and conley as a pf and pg, minny also could trade the pick, cuz they have foye and jefferson. if seattle got the pick though, they would need a pg too much to trade it

No one will give you a top 2 pick for Marion.

After giving it some thought, my current thinking is that Marion's future here hinges on what happens with the lottery. My assumption is that to be a legit playoff team you need three star types; the challenge is how to balance them out by position and how to fit them under your cap and still add quality pieces around them. Right now we have two big chips to play with: our lottery pick and Marion.

If we take Rose, then that woud mean we either move Marion for a quality post man or let his deal expire and make a run at Brand. That would give you a Rose/Wade/Brand trio.

If we take Beasley, I could see us keeping Marion (re-signed to a reasonable contract). He gives you defense, rebounding and some veteran grit. Taking Beasley means Haslem is expendable (maybe not next season, but eventually) and you can fill a hole at another spot with him. This scenario would be a Wade/Marion/Beasley scenario.

If we fall to 3 or 4...this is where it gets tricky. I'm not sure the guys beind considered here are Top 3 guys in the short term (even with Beasley and Rose it will take some time). So unless, Riley is convinced a guy like Bayless, Mayo or Lopez can be that, this could put the pick in play fo a veteran. Depending on the position of that player, that could also put Marion into play or keep him in Miami (again assuming a reasonable contract)

If we get Pietrus then Marion is out. Sign (extension) and trade?

1st move....U.Haslem, Mark Blount,52# for Brian Cardinal,Mike Miller
2nd move- (Part of MLE"4 Mil") JCN ...(Part MLE "2mil")Chris Mihm
3rd Move- Trade Shawn Marion,Banks For J.Oneal
4th move-(LLE) Chris Duhon
Draft. Beasley

C-J.Oneal- Chris Mihm-Zo
PF-Beasley-Cardinal-AJ
SF-Mike Miller-Dorrel
SG-Wade-DQ
PG-JCN-Chris Duhon

That team above would be great. Good spacing and everyone fits. Oneal and beasley Front court would be crazy good. And JCN is the Perfect PG for Wade and Mike miller can Defend and hit a out side shot. Off the bench you got Dorrel,Mihm,DQ

1st- No way in hell I'm trading Marion for J Oneal considering Oneal plays 40 games a year. Even if they want to get rid of Marion badly, they're better off letting him go through FA so they can let his contract free up cap room
2nd- Duhon will cost more then the LLE

I'd do the other deals, though, except I'd change it up a bit and use MLE on a C

C: Diop? Turiaf?/ Mihm, Anthony
PF: Marion, Cardinal
SF: Miller, Wright
SG: Wade, DQ
PG: Rose, Banks

This lineup gets rid of a hustle player in Haslem, but gains one in Turiaf. Move Marion to a more natural position, and gain a 3pt specialist in Miller. Secure the PG spot by adding Rose, and keeping the backup in Banks, all while getting a 100% healthy Wade.

The C position isn't going to be filled overnight, unless Riley pulls a huge trade off, so I'm less worried about the C position as opposed to filling the charts, depth-wise at other postions.

If we draft beasley, J O'Neal is the good fit for Beasley if compared with Brand.

I'll do a marion & Blount for JO & Daniels (exp. contract)

Interesting, that Melo is maybe being shopped around. I remember Wade and Melo played fairly well in team USA. I do think Melo sometimes gets caught up with individual numbers, but his talent is rare.

What about Marion, add something else.

For Melo and someone else.

Melo does need to improve his mental aproach, but the guy is talented.

And to those considering Beasley, he might be a bigger headache, than Melo will ever be.

Rose, Wade, Melo, Haslem, Fabricio Oberto/Jeff Foster/ or Diop

as a starting combo.

not to shabby, that easily gets us in the second round in the East. Maybe even Finals material if they gel right.

Heat Trade- 1# Beasley-Marion-Banks-Blount-Dorrel
Miami gets- Melo-Camby-Hunter
LLE-JCN
MLE-Petrius/Kwame

C-Camby-Kwame
PF-Haslem-Hunter
SF-Melo-Petrius
SG-Wade-DQ
PG-JCN-Quinn

That team would be atop of the east. A Great balance of Offense and Defense.

The only reason we should trade our lottery pick is if it is outside the top two. Rose and Beasley offer very high reward if they meet expectations, and there's no reason they shouldn't.

I'd still like to see a trade to move into the top ten to grab Randolph. It will take him a couple years, but if the team is still growing with youth then you could see a similar situation to what LA is doing this year. LA drafted a lot of young talent, not even high picks, while holding on to their star and made a few smart trades to nab a great star role player in Pau. It's not a ridiculous notion to think that the Heat couldn't do the same by trading Marion to free up space and get another lottery pick.

Memphis might be willing to make a trade of a future lottery pick if they end up with the number two so that they can get Beasley. #2, Miller, and next year's lottery pick for #1 and Marion? Not sure if that works though, as I'm not sure about trading consecutive year's draft picks.

Seattle could possibly do the same if they finish outside the top two, as Beasley or Rose would fit in nicely on that team.

Charlotte might be willing to give up a lot to grab Beasley. Charlotte's pick (Randolph?), Okafor, and another prospect for #1 and Marion?

Just some ideas to get this team infused with great young talent.
