You underrate Thaddeus Young like many in here underrated PJ Tucker. Young is better then Duncan. Just like many thought Tucker was washed in Houston it’s the same situation Young is going through with the Spurs. We are soon going to have a major log jam in the swing spots. Duncan may not even get the opportunity you speak of once all the pieces are healthy and with the emergence of players like Martin and Strus. We get married to some of our players too much. I remember uproar by some when we traded Winslow for Crowder and Iguodala. I view trading Duncan for Young in that same light.

I agree with this for the most part. Do we get rid of Morris in this scenario or is he insurance for injury.

Would still like to see what the most we can get for Duncan and picks is but this is a solid fallback option

That would be good if I knew I'd keep posting them.

The older ones are easy to find when you search the Miami board for the word "ORTG-DRTG" and one of the Heat player's last name.

Nope. We definitely retain Morris as insurance or start working him in more at Center for when the matchup calls for it. As you can see depth is sorely needed in the front court. We should not be relying on Dedmon so much right now and Spo deems Yurtseven barely playable even with all the injuries that have occurred. Keep in mind that Tucker is also 37 years old and the long season is a grind. Having someone like Young behind him and Morris behind all of them is ideal for a team looking to win a title this year.

This. I’d love to have him next to Bam and it’ll save Tucker for the postseason where we need him most.

He’s a role player but he can actually get all nba defense recognition playing defense here as we’d probably be the top defense in the league. Hell get recognition for winning and being a key part of that. His age fits the timeline for now and the future.

Send Robinson, another young guy and a 1st, maybe even 2 at this point and get him. He’s the perfect fit, let’s get this championship.

I know you mean well but it’s highly doubtful anything with Turner happens here. Pacers will have other offers to weigh that will most likely be better offers then our one dimensional three point shooter. Duncan is not going to be an easy sell to teams and we are also tap dancing on avoiding the tax. Wizards find themselves in a similar situation with Davis Bertans.

It's an easy deal. Add Bam and take Sabonis as well as Turner. :banghead:

I don't think people get the trading situation with Robinson. This isn't just an underperforming 3pt shooter being moved, this is an underperforming 3pt shooter on a long-term contract. I would think San Antonio can probably get an expiring contract and a pick for Young at the deadline, so an offer of Robinson and a pick or even 2 for Young probably isn't anywhere in the ballpark of getting it done.

Yup it is going to be tough. I'm banking on the Spurs looking to flip a veteran for a player they coveted in the offseason in Duncan. Getting the pick might be a stretch you are correct. I seriously value Young's all around game fitting like a glove in our system.

Duncan is in trouble for sure and things get even worse for him when Oladipo comes into the fold.

He’s at 23 MPG this month, slowly being taken out of the rotation

Those minutes are pathetic after he signed this new contract. So many NBA players just drop off in quality after signing their payday guaranteed contract. Some of these deals destroy franchises for years (Gilbert Arenas) and cost tens or even hundreds of millions in revenue for the team, league, and salary cap to pay players more.

It’s one thing if a player is hurt, but there is no reason for a player on the deal DROB just signed to be playing anything less than 30 MPG.

We have undrafted guys and guys on 2 way contracts closing over Duncan who just signed for $90M. And this is nothing new, he’s NEVER been a part of our closing rotation.

I think Duncan lost a little bit of his fire and slumps (if you want to call it that after this many games) don't really bother him as much as they used to. He knew before that his livelihood depended on him being a great shooter. Now he's a lot more pampered. He's not lazy, he's just a lot more content in his life and doesn't have the same chip on his shoulder.

This ain’t that bro. Duncan got a sizable commitment via his contract. I’d wager they are going to ride that out a lil longer than you anticipate.

If Duncan continues to scuffle and get outplayed by the lower salaried wings and then you add a healthy Dipo into the equation. I don't think the organization will hesitate to deal Duncan for a win now veteran player especially at a position of weakness such as the front court. Duncan was signed to a bird rights deal because it made sense to retain him instead of letting him walk out the door for nothing. It was a time during free agency where it just made sense to give him a deal if it was reasonable and use his contract as a trade asset down the road. Duncan's struggles and the emergence of others have certainly put him on the chopping block imo. Only so many minutes to go around between Butler,Herro,Strus, Martin, Lowry, Vincent, Robinson, and soon to be (Dipo) and possibly Marcus Garrett or Brandon Knight(Late season addition). Markieff Morris questionable health has put getting a player like Thaddeus Young in the forefront.

I agree that Duncan is going to have to go sooner or later. The reality is that Duncan and Herro cannot play together and while that may be ok for the moment, once Herro’s eventual contract extension kicks in during the 23/24 season it’s going to be kinda hard to stomach not only a player making that much money coming off the bench but also the fact that we’ll have a ton of money locked up in guys who can’t share the floor and definitely can’t finish games together. That would just be really poor cap management.

With that said I don’t know if Thad Young is the guy. I’d ideally want to use Duncan plus something else to get a long term fix next to Bam. Young can’t shoot and is getting up there in years.

I liked the Myles Turner idea better. If the issue is that Duncan’s value is shot to the extent that we couldn’t even facilitate a three team trade where we got Myles back then maybe that’s our que to wait it out and let him recoup some of his value.

Just think, if we had traded Herro in the offseason like many wanted we would’ve gotten pennies on the dollar. We didn’t and now he’s more valuable than he’s ever been.

We are not in a position to be handing out minutes based on contract. With Bam & Jimmy out Spo is gotta ride whoever is hot. Lowry atm is the only player guaranteed minutes. The margin of error is too low to waste minutes on a player who isn't producing.
