Looking forward to signing Waiters and Johnson. I hope we are that lucky

Agreed. I'm happy taking care of our own building from within with hard work and great chemistry. Guess were just old school GOM

I'm pretty sure Gom's post was sarcastic :D

Nope. I agree with MWP and don't think we have a chance to get a title, but it doesn't matter. Build slow and win it all.

If we have to settle for Waiters and JJ only, I hope it's a one year deal so we can get their Bird rights and not maxing out our cap so we can have room for a big fish next off season.

Needs to be 2-year deals to get their bird rights.

But the fact we had them last year doesn't that cumulatively adds up to Bird rights or does it have to be in the same contract term?

Not sure on the specifics but I'm going by what Albert Nahmad (@AlbertNahmand), the salary cap expert on twitter, was saying on the morning show on 790. He specifically spoke about that and mentioned it had to be 2-year deals to get their bird rights, another one year deal wouldn't do it.

It has to be two year deals no doubt. I was listening to the show as well. Need three consecutive years in order to obtain bird rights. I think both JJ and Waiters will work with us.

Remember we lost bird rights to Wade because he only signed a one yr deal

If cap hold is renounced you lose bird rights and the clock starts over.

Even if we sign a big FA we should keep this 25 year old. I have a feeling he will come in handy...

Don't see Waiters and JJ willing to take significantly less for two more season in order for the Heat to get their bid rights. That's a huge ask of guys that had career years and haven't had their big pay day yet.

Looks like a guy playing by himself to me. My experience is that John Calipari doesn't discourage kids from shooting if they can shoot. And sometimes even if they can't. Trey Lyles jacked 29 of them while shooting .138 from 3 point range in his one season at Kentucky. Optimism is nice but, I ain't buying a pig in poke. He's going to have to show me that he can do it in actual games vs visible opponents before I buy it.

What makes me optimistic (and I'm using this term because drafting a pure backup C at #14 is BS to me) is not even him draining 3's, it's more :

1. Riley comparing him to PF's.
2.Spo talking about how he fits this team, the current trends of the NBA game
3. His movement - he's moving more like a JJ, not like a Whiteside.
4. Seeing him successfully switch to guards on college defensive scheme.
5. Hearing people praising his out side shot (non-Heat people).
6. Bish.

How much did Karl Towns shoot at Kentucky? How about Demarcus Cousins? Anthony Davis?

Trey Lyles was always a PF exclusively. Towns was playing center that year, and he was the guy filling the real big man role on that team (like Bam this past season). Bam was the only viable big man on the Kentucky team this year, so they were very dependent on him playing the big man role exclusively.

I definitely agree that we cannot just assume Bam is suddenly a shooter. But, everything else in your post is reaching IMO
