The sign and trade wouldn't have worked anyway. Having renounced him (actually his Bird Rights), the Lakers couldn't exceed the cap to sign him, and as of now they only have ~ $5 million in cap space assuming they are renouncing every other free agent too. $5 million was never going to cut it.

Very true. I was thinking he still had bird rights but once he was renounced that ended all talks.

We can sign him to the MLE and then trade Dragic. That way we won't have to worry about our offense. He can score all the points, and the rest of the team can focus on playing Heat defense. It'll be just like his time with the Celtics.
