Rashard Lewis apparently interested in the Heat. He'd be a great pickup considering his length and shooting. He can play the 3/4 and would be a nice addition for the minimum.

most of them are out of out price range

Of course they are. That doesn't stop you trying for them. We can offer a good chance of a ring or two. Players that will take the minimum with the bobcats are not worth looking at.

Allen or Camby on the books at 40 and 41 years old doesn't thrill me. Just makes next year's FA that much more difficult.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

Heat in contact with forward Rashard Lewis

The Miami Heat's search for length and outside shooting in NBA free agency, combined with the team's lack of salary-cap resources, have led them to the doorstep of a late entry onto the market.

Forward Rashard Lewis, a 6-foot-10 3-point specialist who was limited to 28 games this past season by knee problems and waived over the weekend by the New Orleans Hornets, has attracted multiple overtures from the Heat amid the start of the NBA's free-agency period.

"I've talked to the Heat several times, and we'll continue to talk to them," agent Tony Dutt told the Sun Sentinel Monday. "We're just looking at all of the options at this point and we're going to sit down later in the week and figure out the top three or four spots that make sense and then he may visit those particular spots."

The Boston Celtics’ hopes of keeping Ray Allen will have to wait a few days.

The 36-year-old free-agent guard will visit the Miami Heat on Thursday and the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, according to a source, and listen to their pitches.

Allen had conference calls Monday w/Heat, Clippers, Grizzlies and Timberwolves. But he isn't currently scheduled to visit Memphis or Minny.

Allen visiting us tomorrow, now is the time to recruit him just like LeBron and Bosh.

Ok..Finally some movement. im glad Ray is coming down to visit Miami, we have a few good selling points Pat needs to hammer :

1.We offer a 3 year deal, not 2 (ray probably want to play the extra year)
2.We're the best shot he has at a ring.
3.We'll never trade him.
4.He's a very good fit, basketball wise.
5.The guys really want him here.
6.He w'ont start for us, but he'll finish :
Wade-Ray-LBJ-Bosh-Center will be a killer fourth quarter lineup.

Get it done Pat.

IMO - this is just a leverage move to get a "no trade" clause from Boston - Curious, don't remember, did Shane take us through this?

Playing Devils Advocate Here

Close your eyes and take out the "chance to win a ring" aspect, what else do we have to offer FA's?

1. Some of these players aren't really impressed with South Beach(Think Shane),
2. Still want to get paid(Think Ronny), they can get more money elsewhere which negates the "no tax" issue(think recent FA signings),
3. They probably won't get playing time(think JJ),
4. Some of these guys may want to actually BEAT Lebron and wade, not play with them(think Allen), so what else?
5. Pat Riley's system is not endearing to some players, coaches and owners talk(think Marc Cuban)

Having heard larry Bird on Sports center say the 1 year model for FA's to win a championship he is not a fan of.

Again, just playing Devils Advocate

The Heat opened free agency with Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen as a prime target, but Allen is said to have a standing offer from the Celtics at twice what the Heat could offer with their $3.1 million exception.

IMO - as stated already, he's looking for Boston to sweetened the deal, not necessary;y with money, he wants a "no trade" clause, he knows Boston doesn't want to lose him to Miami - JMHO

Regarding Lewis

Dutt said the Heat's salary-cap limitations are not a concern.

"We're trying to combine and get the best value based on situation, based on opportunity, based on winning," he said. "So everything that the Heat have is a good fit. And there's two, three other situations that are probably equal to that that we're looking at."

WD - what other options are equal to that?

REALLY? this is a new breed of players, 1 player looks at that as an asset, another player looks at that as a liability.

. Allen still Heat's priority. But there's concern about losing other options in process. Real MIA interest in Camby/Lewis if Allen balks.

You can't trust these Celtics ..hmm

Remember this

Ray Allen is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and should have his pick at attractive options. The Knicks and Heat are reportedly at the very top of his list. This is not the first time the Miami Heat have been linked to pursuing the talented shooting guard through free agency.

Chris Mannix

@ChrisMannixSI
If KG decides he wants to keep playing, he will be draw HUGE interest in free agency.

ray knows what's on the table from every team so the meetings won't be about money. bos 12/2, memphis 10/2, clippers 15/3, miami 9/3. i'm not really worried about boston because there's bad blood there (tried to trade him twice, beef with rondo) and memphis because it's freaking memphis. however, the clips could offer him a starting job, the best point guard in the nba to keep feeding him and the most money... rashard lewis doesn't care about money because new orleans will still have to pay him. quite frankly, i'd be thrilled with ray ray and lewis. i don't even want camby, we play too fast on offense for him now.

assuming miller retires or takes the year off after his back surgery:
chalmers - cole
wade - allen - harris
bron - jones
lewis - battier
bosh - haslem - joel
