Riley has shown he is willing to bring back shooters or veterans out of retirement to give them a chance. He may bring back Jason Williams or Allen Iverson who have both previously retired. Any chance he at least makes some phone calls to see whether Allan Houston is worth a look? Houston is 4 years old than Ray Allen but his body has logged as many NBA minutes. What about a 37 year old Chris Webber? Webber is slightly younger than Juwan Howard who is still effective in the NBA. I just really want to see a guy who has retired without a ring. come back for a year and win a ring. I'd like Allen Iverson or Chris Webber to win one. And would be happy to string along an old guy as our 12th man and get them a ring.

Magic starting small forward Matt Barnes, an unrestricted free agent, told the Sentinel on Friday that he’s talked to the star-studded Miami Heat about joining LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

“We’ve been in contact with Miami,” Barnes said. “No question they’ve added some pieces with the Big Three.”

Barnes said he also has been in contact with the L.A. Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks.

But not so much the Magic, the team he says is still “No. 1 on my list. I definitely want to stay in Orlando. That’s been my family’s stance as well.”

If we can get Matt Barnes on a SUPER discount, I wouldn't mind it at all.

I really like the idea of bringing Derek Fisher on board. Chalmers has never really had a PG mentor...and I'm not putting D-Fish on the level of these guys but look at Billups-Lawson, Nash-Dragic, Parker-Hill, CP3-Collison. Having a mentor like that does wonders for your game. He's just another solid veteran presence who has "been there done that."

We need guys like this with a young coach who has never made a deep playoff run in Spoelstra. We need character and leadership. Give him 15 mpg or so.

This is all, of course, if we can get him on the cheap.

Why do we insist in naming Allen Iverson as an option at all? Do we really want a player on our roster who needs to have the ball in his hands 90% of the time in order to be productive? And that is not even considering his locker room/practice antics, his partying ways and the fact that he sucked in his last three stops...

Nobody who understands basketball is really naming Allen Iverson as an option. Or T-Mac. Or Shaq.

Bringing any of those three and the baggage they carry is utterly ridiculous.

I will eat my words if we end up with one of them, but there's a 99.99999% chance we don't because they are not necessary in the least.

Yea I'm not sure why people want Iverson.. I would HATE to have him on the team. If we were to fail I would SOLELY blame him.

I don't want Iverson..

Well one thing I can GUARANTEE you is that there is a much higher chance we land either Shaq or Iverson than we land Fisher. Apart from the fact that we can't offer him anymore than the minimum, there is no way the Lakers don't pay whatever it takes to keep him. Kobe Bryant, the real general manager of the Lakers, will throw a tantrum.

Shaq - I definitely want him on the team.
Iverson - I don't really want on the team. I just want him to win a ring, so would take him as our 12th man just for that, just like how Mitch Ritchmond got one from the Lakers.

Shaq and AI don't fit the culture of this team. Lebron and Wade were salivating at the thought of getting on the practice court, a sentiment echoed by Coach Spoelstra. This is going to be a team that works its ass off in practice and on off days. Its probably the best thing IMO that Lebron will bring to the locker room: his teams always seem to go all out from day 1.

AI and Shaq's personalities are the anti-thesis of what we're looking for in vet min signings. So we ink 3 unselfish, hard-working superstars who are going to go all out in practice and in the offseason and all that, and then sign vet-min primadonnas? Pfft. No chance.

no one in the front office or on this board gives a crap if AI gets a ring. If we were the 76ers, then perhaps.

I asked Ric Bucher about Dampier being released on twitter and I got this DM from him:

RicBucher
have you forgotten who took the '06 title from the mavs? there is no way cuban does anything that has a remote chance of helping the heat.

Ira' explanation for the hold up on Miller and Haslem

Q: What's the holdup with the Miller and Haslem deals? -- Matt.

A: The Timberwolves have to take care of an administrative matter before they can close out the Michael Beasley acquisition. Once Minnesota takes care of that, Michael will be dealt and the cap space needed for Miller and Haslem will open for the Heat.

Mike Miller's site now official Heat themed: www.mikemiller33.com

Better change that domain name though boy. And you better have picked the $25 million contract.

Kudos to Ira on this twitter account.
http://twitter.com/iraheatbeat
He's been rocking it this free agency updating every 3 hours to feed my craving for more legit news. He doesn't necessarily break stories, but he does seem to confirm them and cut out the BS.

It's especially fun when the news is "Miami aiming to get Miller, Haslem, Fisher"

IraHeatBeat

Also, do not rule out a return by James Jones. Those wheels already have been set in motion. Minimum roster not looking so minimal.

BRING BACK MY DAWG J-HOOPS!!!
