WCS had diabetes and was insulin dependent. I I think that is what ultimately slowed him from reaching his potential. But yeah KelEl has the WCS and Tyson Chandler physical attributes.

Nah he had sickle cell what stopped him was he was a idiot who said all the right stuff but never did any of the right stuff and wanted to be a go to 20ppg scorer when he was not that. Even Wares face is like WCS's its crazy how alike they are from the way they talk as well.

greg4012 wrote:First things that jump out when you watch Kel'el Ware play are obviously his length and athleticism. The last time Miami had a player as big as Kel'el Ware was Hassan Whiteside. The impact that size can have on the NBA court speaks for itself. So, let's talk about his athleticism and fluidity.

You can see how fluidly he moves on tape. I never put too much stock into combine athleticism testing numbers in a vacuum, but they still have some value in verifying what is shown on tape. Kel'el's numbers make clear that his fluidity and athleticism for his size are for real (Hassan Whiteside's testing numbers in parenthesis for quick comparison:

Lane Agility 10.97 (11.83)
Shuttle Run 2.91
3/4 Spring 3.29 (3.54)
Max Vertical 36 (31.5)

Out of the 76 draft prospects that participated in the athletic testing, Ware had the 22nd best lane agility time (1 center above him; 1 PF above him); 17th best shuttle time (1 center above him; 2 PFs above him); 33rd best Max Vertical (5 Cs above; 5 PFs above); and 61st best 3/4 sprint (8 centers above and 9 PFs above).

At 7' 230 pounds, Ware has athletic testing numbers of a Small Forward--especially with regards to short area movement. That shows on the court.

Now, Miami and Ware need to figure out how to ensure he's using those movement skills effectively to get to the right spots on the court, make the right decisions, and generally develop greater awareness in his role.

Ware has the 3rd longest standing reach in this draft behind Edey and Clingan (9'4.5). He has the agility testing numbers of an athletic SF (see above). I think Miami will be able to deploy him how Boston used to use Robert Williams. Put him on a corner 3 pt shooter and shuttle run between closing out on any corner 3s and providing rim protection help

There's definitely an element of Ware that is hard to trust and needs to be sussed out. That led to my reservations on him as a prospect, as there's really no way for me to learn more about that. But, gotta hope that the Heat have learned their lesson from the Beasley and Whiteside experience and have dug deep in validating Ware's "want-to" and attitude.

Damn will it be frustrating if we got another Whiteside/Beasley lol. I like the upside shot given they've done their due diligence.

How do we feel about Dadiet now that the Knicks got him?

I don't think Thibs is good for most rookies. I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks try to stash him given the depth on their team, his young age, and the payroll bind they're facing. I hate it for him and personally as someone who cannot support anything knicks

Hoopshype workout tracker had listed 8 workouts for Ware. Shows that a lot of workouts still go unreported.

I think you guys are mixing up Kyshawn George with Dadiet. The Knicks had two firsts (24 and 25) and traded 24 (George) to Washington for 26.

Niko still on the team?

Maybe. Maybe he's getting the minutes at the end of tight games.

I believe the strength of this draft was the guards and wings, so the Ware pick surprised me. But our scouting staff has had more hits then misses, so I’m looking forward to seeing the development.

I'll def take the shot on him. He doesn't really play SF tho--has no real handle. And he's not 6'11. He's 6'9.

I was surprised that we didn't pick up WCS to back up Bam when he washed out elsewhere. It seemed like a no-brainer, but the Heat obviously didn't agree.

Yea I was just going off the gleague height I saw. I see 6’11 6’10 6’10.25 but I see now he measured 6’9 barefoot at the combine. Still great size with similar measurements to Bam but 20 pounds lighter and you can develop a handle, I’d try to make him a 3 if I was the Heat and then you have insane size in the frontcourt locked in for the future.

I don’t see why he couldn’t be like a Trey Murphy

My appologies if it was sickle cell. If it was sickle cell its the same and can be a worse struggle. Sickle cell is a lot less controllable, pain wise a lot more to deal with. What ever the condition was, I knew it was a hard situation to deal with and play at the NBA level. WCS was very talented, probably the most talent out of the three bigs that came out. I remember the struggles T-Boz who has sickle cell anemia with the group TLC. She talked a lot about how she tried to quit in the height of their careers because of her struggles.

But anyways. The talent is there with Ware, but I suggest to have patience with Ware like many have been with Jovic.
