Summer 2011 Moves for the Heat

Post#1 » by Nanogeek » Mon Jun 13, 2011 3:07 am

First, we should not overreact to this series. The Heat played incredible ball throughout most of the playoffs. They dismantled the Bulls handily.

Second, the big question is should the Big Three be broken up? I say no way. They have only had one season together. They had alot of success this season but clearly there is work to do.

With that out of the way, the next question is should Spoelstra return? Again - I say look at the season as a whole. This team had alot of success. Spoelstra had alot of success. He could have done better coaching the Heat to respond more effectively to the Dallas zone defense and getting Lebron to be more aggressive. But absent Spoelstra himself offering up to Riley to take a backseat for Riley to come down to the bench I say you stick with Spoelstra for another year.

After that its all limbo really. The CBA is going to expire and we do not know what options the Heat will have during the offseason to improve. The Heat can't improve much through free agency. But where they need to focus is front court help. The Heat need rebounding and front court toughness. Where do they get that? That's what Heat management and fans will have to ponder this summer. If they can find someone to take Miller and get some front court help in return then that is probably the best option.

Dallas had the best center rotation left in the postseason

Heat played no real centers.

If we can get Dwight for either Wade or LeBron (They aren't trading him for Bosh) I do it in an instant.

In the past I would have said no, but there's something about our team's current construction that I don't like.

Any team that plays zone defense is going to give us trouble, and at this stage in Wade/LeBron's career I'm not sure that will change. They are far too streaky with their jumpshot. It's either really hot, or ice cold. Guys like Kobe, Ray, Pierce, Rip, Ginobili, etc you know what you're going to get in terms of shooting.

While Chalmers did have a solid 5 games this series, tonight proved why most Heat fans have a love-hate relationship with him. He's not the answer to start at PG.

Hopefully the MLE is around and we can add a decent C. Hopefully some quality vets that are capable of playing (Unlike what we have now) will sign here. And it would be great if Dexter Pittman can develop into a rotation player.

The heat need a perimeter stopper that can shoot the three. A center that can rebound and finish.

Delonte West plays tough defense and can hit the three. All jokes aside, he'd be awesome at the 1.

You're overreacting. After all Wade has done for us, you're just going to send him away? After one bad Finals series, you're going to trade LeBron James away? How about we simply add a decent center a la Samuel Dalembert to begin with? How about we add some reliable shooters who can defend to our team? Wade-James-Bosh is our core and I like that core. We simply have some gaps to fill, that's all.

I don't Spo is ever going to get fired, as much as we'd like that.

He has Pat Riley's ear. Pat Riley wants someone who's going to listen to him.

How awesome would it be if Jerry Sloan maybe signed as an assistant coach or something? NEED AN OFFENSIVE SYSTEM

the defense was horrible against THIS team. The defense does not work against shooters. It worked against a team of slashers sure, but not this team.

It was just a match up nightmare...

Delonte West isn't that great defensively to me. Wade shot a 3 in his face and owned him. He played great offensively for the Celtics, but would choke at the end. Don't need any of that...

NEED A CENTER. Either have Joel work on his offense all summer, or start Pittman.

Also notice how well the Heat would run their offense when Mario was at the PG or Wade? It's better for players like LBJ and Wade to receive their passes from PG's rather than try to create their own shots because defenses load up on them and they can't get in the lane.

It's part over-reaction, part enlightenment. I appreciate Wade for everything he's done, and LeBron for signing here. But at the end of the day, I'd at least look into possible options if it means the HEAT franchise winning.

Wade and LeBron are NEVER going to be shooters. They won't. That's not their game. Any team that plays zone defense is going to give us a ton of trouble. People talk about LBJ slowing down, but I feel like that's a by-product of playing next to Wade since he's unable to space the floor. LBJ also holds Wade's game down at times.

It's been hard enough to get Wade and LeBron to play off the ball. Even up to Game 6, if one of them has the ball the other stands around for the most part.

THAT being said, if we roll out the same team next season with some upgrades I'm more than down with that. I'll support this team no matter who plays for it. Trust me, I'd love for this exact same team to win it all.

Edit:
IF I had to trade one of Wade or LeBron, I'd trade LeBron.
Wade's been here longer and despite being absolute trash (And you can bet I'll be on him all off-season for that) tonight he has delivered.

well, this WAS their first year together. I'm sure they will figure something out in the off-season.

the thing is, who knows if they had a real PG. When Mario was in sometimes, they'd cut to the basket and they'd get some good looks or easy buckets.

it's hard when a defense stares at you and then you try to shoot or drive, just won't happen.

huge example : D.Rose. Tried to do everything himself against a good defensive team where their whole defensive plan was just for him. He couldn't do anything. This is what happened to the Heat.

I'm sure they'll win it next year honestly. They just needed better personnel too. It's tough when your star players have to run the point, score and get rebounds, and more so because there's no viable center.

They had to learn through the course of the season. I honestly think the Mavs were the worst match up for the Heat. Yes they could have swept them looking into it, but they couldn't score on their zone. If they never played zone, who knows what would have happened. I couldn't believe though after 5 games they couldn't figure it out.

Wade, lebron and bosh where horrible on the free trow line especially down the stretch. After missing that free throw in 2006 dirt has work his ft shooting to 90+% our guys should do the same. Offensive execution down the stretch is also a priority, our offense is not good enough in shoot outs if the defense is not there we are getting out score. Another priority is playing zone defense house played well in this game because he is a shooter and we need more of those in the bench that can get it done when it counts.

The coach could probably get better but I don't think he will get replace.

Only trade I will consider for our stars is Dwight because we need a big. But the big 3 need to use this summer to get better personally and as a unity they have the tools but need to work hard at getting better....

You're right "DefenseWins"

Maybe we did force our stars to do too much and it finally caught up to them.

I'm still terrified about the zone though. Any team that is smart will use it on us, and it's proven to be very effective.

Wade and Lebron need to put in A LOT of work on their mid-range game. I noticed they passed up a lot of good mid-range shots. These were the kind of shots Terry would take and make at a good clip. If we had this, we would've won and forced the Mavs zone to adjust. The zone beat us.

And Coach Spo has to go.
