Heat vets insist they won't retire

Mike Bibby:
Most curious is the case of 33-year-old point guard Mike Bibby, who forfeited $6.4 million in a buyout from the Washington Wizards in order to finish the season with the Heat.

"I think I've still got years left," he said. "I'm still kind of young. I've got a lot of years in this league, but I'm definitely not thinking of retiring."

Juwan Howard:
"I enjoy playing," he said. "Yes, sir, I plan to be back."

Whether the Heat have him back could be another issue.

"My preference is here," he said.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas:
"Everybody considers it when you hit a certain age, you miss your family, you miss your kids, everything else," he said. "It's not a decision you make overnight or you just come up with it. At some point you play basketball, but you also miss your family, the travel gets to you, your body doesn't respond like it always has. It's just a natural progression."

Erick Dampier:
"I'm definitely not calling it quits," said 36-year-old Erick Dampier. "Even with 15 years, I just think I can play another two to three years. I'm going to keep it going. Why quit now?"

Jamaal Magloire:
"Absolutely," he said. "I plan to be back, playing."

Eddie House:
"My body feels great. I can still play," House, 33, said. "No, I haven't thought about that at all. That's the last thing in my mind."

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Some of them are definitely done, and wouldn't serve much of a purpose here - especially if they aren't getting minutes.

Can't blame them for wanting to give it another shot though. :-?

I wouldn't mind Bibby as a last resort option to backing up Chalmers. Because we'll likely use the mid level on a center, we won't be able to upgrade the point guard spot. I'm fine with that because I want Chalmers to get the reigns. If we can't find a better vet than Bibby I'd be fine with him coming back for 10-15 mpg in the regular season.

I'd also like to keep Eddie as insurance off the bench. He proved his value last night.

Z, Mags, & Damp need to be replaced by a mid level center and a vet minimum with fresher legs. I'd also expect Pittman to get in the action. Juwan should be replaced by a younger vet, or Jarvis Vernado.

I'd only like to keep House for sure and MAYBE Bibby. But, if we can get an upgrade for Bibby, why not. The rest, I hope you enjoyed your last season with Miami if we can get upgrades for them.

Bibby was brought in to make shots in the playoffs.

What does it do? Shoot 27% and miss WIDE OPEN SHOTS

no thank you. House was suppose to cover Jason Terry last night. I think we all know what happened.

More defensive minded players who can hit some shots.

I'd maybe take Mike back. But that's a big maybe.
Rest of them, no thanks.

Maybe Juwan Howard as a bench rider/locker room guy, I like him. No thanks to the rest of them.

I don't think it's fair to judge any of these players based on what they did here. The Miami Heat has a tendency to make good payers look bad and great players look normal. I have lots of example, but the most recent one comes to mind. Shawn marion, we couldn't get nothing out of this guy compared to what Dallas got out of him. we over worked him in practice, got him hurt and shipped him out. He came back to kick us in the azz.

Until I see what out staff looks like, i will hold judgement on all players nor names Wade, James and Maybe Bosh. Miami does not have a good track record with me at making players look good unless they are the main focus. Think Zo, Timmy, Wade

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing old corpses on the floor, I'd probably keep House and thats about it and MAYBE Bibby hoping he gets his touch back.

Anyone who thinks that we can simply upgrade most of our bench is kidding himself. Better players tend to want better pay. There is no guarantee that there will be a MLE next season, and we don't really have assets to trade in exchange for quality players.

Odds are very high that these guys or players like them will be the best we can do to fill out our roster again next season. If we can add 1 quality player for next season, I will consider us fortunate. If Pittman can give us anything next season and Pat doesn't ship him out for nothing, that would be great.

Erick Dampier is a big body. I say keep him. I don't know why he was held out in the Playoffs, but someone like that could always be useful. Bibby sealed it for me with his play; he's definitely not coming back. At the point, we need Chalmers, a veteran presence, and a potential development diamond-in-the-rough player like Javaris Crittenton. We'll be fine. Chalmers is going to be something special.

Don't sleep on Dexter Pittman.

House would be nice to have back. I wonder if he'll want to remain here though. He still has some game left in him, but went weeks if not months without seeing the court.

Juwan gave us some quality minutes (And fouls), but anything more than a 3rd string PF is asking for too much out of him.

Bibby shot well at first, but his shooting in the playoff's DISGUSTED me. Jermaine O'Neal laughs at this guy. How can you miss so many wide open looks?

Other:
Jamal Crawford
Delonte West (vet minimum)
Joel Przybilla
Kurt Thomas (vet minimum)
Anthony Parker (vet minimum)
Tayshaun Prince
TJ Ford (vet minimum)
Jeff Foster (vet minimum)
Michael Redd (vet minimum)
Kris Humphries
Jason Richardson
Grant Hill (vet minimum)

Everyone on this list is better than that group, I think we can nab 1-2 players (hopefully for the min) and IMO that'll be an upgrade.

Seriously, would Riley try and sign Delonte after all the you know who rumors?Hes a great shooter and dude used to always make KEY shots when we played Boston.

I am not convinced that this staff knows how to get anything out of bench players, they couldn't even adjust to a zone.

It's silly to judge shooters on just how they shot over a small sample size of a single playoffs. Sometimes shots fall and sometimes they don't. The fact that guy wasn't hitting them in this playoffs doesn't mean he won't hit them next year. Take Jason Terry, for example. His FG% in the playoffs was .389 in '09, .377 in '10, but .478 this year. In the 2006 playoffs he shot .307 from 3 and this year he shot .442 from 3 in the playoffs. What we saw from Bibby in the playoffs is not indicative of how he normally shoots and doesn't mean he can't/won't be better next year. I won't shed any tears if he doesn't come back, but I think he could still play a positive role on this team. House is a guy that I think was underused this year in that I think he is very similar to Terry as a shooter/scorer (but is actually a much better 3 pt. shooter over his career)

You guys need to keep your "specialists".

It will be tough for you guys to nab true bench players, so you might as well do your best with specialist and the best utility players you can find.

I'd bring back guys like Eddie House & Bibby. The older guys, Big Z, Dampier, Juwan Howard can go.

Bibby doesn't fit with this team IMO. His defense wasn't great, HE SUCKED IN THE PLAYOFFS. We got this guy to make big shots in the playoffs. He got 27% and missed WIDE OPEN SHOTS. REALLY?

On that list someone brought up, it'd be a dream to get Grant Hill and Kris Humphries.

Delonte West, omfg the jokes would be too high but the guy can shoot. HOWEVER, in the Boston series he did choke and had costly TO's for them. Doc started to ride him a little too much. I can totally see Spo doing the same thing.

Tony Allen and Shane Battier would be good.

What concerns me is if these players wouldn't even want to play with the Heat, because they were an arrogant bunch this year and everybody in the league hates them. :\
