NBA Draft Thread - HEAT select Norris Cole!

This is where we can discuss the draft

Heat have 2nd 1st pick

Needs: shooting, scoring, PG or defensive, scoring C

Realistic Options for PG: Charles Jenkins, Reggie Jackson, Nolan Smith, Norris Cole, Shelvin Mack, Ben Hansbourugh, Andrew Goudelock

Stretch Options for PG: Iman Shumpert, Darius Morris, Josh Selby

Realistic Options for C: Jeremy Tyler, Keith Benson

Stretch PG thoughts

Iman Shumpert is big, strong, fast, lock down defender, fills up the stat sheet, could work on shot selection, streaky 3 shooter, not a pure passer, can guard anybody from the 1-3, not an efficent scorer but gets to the line 80percent ft shooter, great finisher

Darius Morris is big, strong, great court vision, adept in pick and roll, not a good shooter, needs ball to be effective, can guard both guard 1s and 2s, hardworker, lead big 10 in assists

Josh Selby not really a point guard but would best best available at with the pick, strong, athletic, quick, a decent 3 point shooter, can score easily, moves off the ball, plays aggressive defense

Center Options that suit Heat's needs

Most likely picked : Reggie Jackson

Don't see him in the 1st round

Long Wingspan, great athleticism, has become a great 3pt shooter. Not exactly a point guard, more like a combo, will pass to the open man. 6'3, a slasher, a great finisher, not scared of contact. Efficient player all the way across the board.

Center-Not much on the draft board
-Jeremy Tyler
-Nikola Vucevic
Both would OK, but probably need to develope J.Tyler more

PG-We need a PG that is tough like Wade and Bron is confident, can run around and hit open shots consistenly with quick and active feet and hands.

1. Andrew Goudelock- best shooter according to combine
2.Josh Selby- Confident player, 42 inch vert., can shoot, kinda big and tough
3.Charles Jenkins- Good shooter from the mid range.
4.Iman Shumpert- Big, strong, defensive pg/sg

Any of these guys can help.

IDK

Also needs a player that can come in and actually play right away. I do think Charles Jenkins and Reggie Jackson could play right away.

Iman might need a few games.

There won't be any good point guards at that point in the draft. And if anything the playoffs showed that we need more depth. We need to draft the bpa, and is going to be parsons. Our sg/sf rotation during the finals was just wade/james/miller. We need more depth. JJ is inconsistent, and a liability on D.

Why can't we have two mike millers? You haven't even seen a healthy MM.

Sign Redd or maybe Hill for the vet min and we have the best wings in the NBA.

We should hire San Antonion's FO to draft for us at 31.

Idk..I like this Parsons kid. He can handle the ball, shoot, pass, rebound. So what if he's a taller, younger, Mike Miller. Shouldn't draft a PG or C just to say you drafted one

Nikola at C
Reggie at PG
one willbe there and both can develop.

The problem with Miami is two part..... If we draft them we have to play them but we dont. We could have had a Tyson Chandler effort from some young prospect but we dont choose that roue and it hurts us.

Jeremy Tyler, Iman, Morris at pg should also be considered. Nolan will be there and is a distant consideration. I think Chalmers can handle the Pg role and needs to play mroe and get more exp under his belt. If we draft a center we should play him instead of PF's all the time and that includes Joel.

Honestly our second rounds aren't that bad.

Eddie House
Rasual Butler
Mario Chalmers

3 rotation players in a decade. And we've bowed out of a few drafts along the way. Its a decent strike rate.

I expect Pittman to be in the NBA for the long haul and a rotation player at some point also. Hopefully a starter.

I could see Riley and Co. buying a pick in the first round.

Here are a few people that could be had at 31.

Jeremy Tyler(Could of been a lottery pick he would of gone to college for a few years).

Shelvin Mack(I was very impressed during the Tourney by MacK)

Reggie Jackson(My favorite late round prospect. Reminds me of K.Dooling)

Not to mention Marcus Thornton (Though we traded him) at #43 back in 2009.

I haven't followed college ball that much this season, but I'm hoping we somehow get a guy that's good enough to contribute right away. Probably a good idea to go with best pick available as well.

The chances of getting a starter are highly unlikely, and depth can never hurt. We all thought the SF and PF position would be secure with LBJ/Miller and Bosh/UD but two of those guys missed over half the games this season.

Whether or not the team decides to play our draft pick is another story. :-?

I've been high on Reggie Jackson and Lucas Nogueira for a while. Wouldn't mind seeing Jeremy Tyler though.

Jeremy Tyler is a headcase, don't want no man baby when trying to win a title.

Need a sense of urgency so somebody that can come in and play right away...

A guy like Charles Jenkins or Reggie Jackson.

I'm pretty high on Charles Jenkins, he has an nba game already. Big and strong, can hit the jumper, a senior, mature, he's 22. Hardworker.

Ok its official im 100% in love with Jimmer Fredette ! The more video and interviews and reading I do on this guy. He really would be a great fit for us. I mean this guy is smart. Can shoot from anywhere, pass, and a stone cold player no matter the stakes. Yes, I know our pick is not gonna get this guy, but it is not unrealistic to think we can get him with a little wheeling and dealing.

The odvious guys are Josh Selby, Reggie Jackson Charles Jenkins Nolan Smith, but these guys will not see the court for us for awhile we all know that. But with Jimmer he is ready now. His defense is what it is, but he is a competitor he will be fine not a stopper but a solid system defender and the great PG's around the league would have to pick there poison, who would say Derrick Rose cover you either have to chase Jimmer around or Wade which is gonna lesson the efect of these guys at the other end imo anyway. Thisguy can flat out score and handles the ball with either hand can pass

The other thing is he is a catch and shoot guy or off the dribble guy with equal success against all levels of competition.

he should go around the 15 spot range so if we were to pkg say this years high second rd pick with say some cash and a future #1 or another player like Joel Anthony or sign and trade chalmers deal or maybe even a bigger dea including Mike Miller who I would hate to lose but if it landed Jimmer and maybe another rotation guy that would play and help would do that as well

So I say JIMMER JIMMER JIMMER

Hey guys, Minny fan here.

Draft express has you taking Reggie Jackson at the 31 spot... that is brilliant for you guys I think. Dude is a winner plain and simple.

I like Jimmer, but no way he is available where the Heat pick. I think we can get a lot of the same attributes (and weaknesses) with Ben Hansbrough and Hansbrough probably will be there. He has similar limitations to Jimmer and is a little less dynamic, but is smart, hardworking, competitive and has a great shot with great range. He's a gamer and, like his brother, is ready to contribute immediately. He'll never be a lockdown defender, but he can be a smart and effective one in our defense (i.e., with help behind him).
