This is good news for us right? Hes basicly done and we can def use the space for amnesty released players!! ;-)

*hanging them up

Miami potentially have the MLE and veteran's minimum to sign free agents.

Z isn't really freeing any space up. I'm 99% sure he was a vet min guy, and seeing as we have no idea what the new CBA will look like yet, we're still totally in the dark.

But more importantly, thanks Z for always being a class act and having a great career. Take away the injuries and he could've been a top 20 center ever.

Too bad he couldn't end his career with a win, but he had a good career.

Big Z, you're a nice guy with one of my favorite jumpers from a big man ever. You shall be missed.

I never said he was freeing cap space, i mean his space as his roster spot for another vet min guy potentially from the amnesty clause, the more spaces we get, the better.... im sure there are going to be many players dropped wanting to come here and join the Heatles....

This will open up a roster spot for a quality vet or a young prospect the Heat might want to develop, but it is sad to see such a professional hanging it up. I really wish the Heat had been able to put a ring on his finger.

Sentimental part of me -
Class act. One of the better C's in the league during his prime. It sucks that we couldn't send him out on a positive note. I wish he'd stick around another year and perhaps get that elusive championship. I appreciate him coming down to Miami and trying to help us out.

Pure Heat fan part of me -
Great news! A shell of his former self, I doubt he'd see many minutes next year. Now we have an extra roster spot that can be given to a player that may be more capable of contributing.

Respect to Big-Z for battling those foot injuries. I bet a lot of players would have called it quits under those circumstances.

I see a lot of people saying "Great, extra roster spot!". I think you guys are overrating what we can get to fill that spot. Remember, at the end of the year last year we were talking about Eddy Curry.

Bottom line, if there were truly a player worth having in that spot, we'd take them over Z regardless of whether he retired or not.

The hope is that by getting rid of Big-Z we free up space to add a player that can actually contribute. But you're right, there's a 99% chance that we'll just end up with another guy who won't see meaningful time on the court.

At the end of the day, that 10th/11th - 15th guy isn't going to be producing for us in games.

I wish he had a chance to win a ring, but since Miami isn't even the place he made his name, I'm not that concerned. He frees a roster slot I wanted to see freed.

PG: Rio/Cole
SG: Wade/House
SF: Bron/Miller
PF: Bosh/Haslem
C: Joel/Pittman

Am I wrong, or do we only have 9 guys under contract? Gone are: Magloire, Dampier, Juwan, Bibby, and Z. JJ is exploring the open market, but was only a vet min specialist anyway. Losing him might help us if it means Miller gets more minutes (and actually produces in those minutes).

I'd like to see us get Dalambert, a young SG, SF and PF, and a vet PG. Man, if we could get Nene or Dalambert, it might be one of the best rosters ever assembled. The Dolphins suck right now, so with lockout has to end soon. PEACE.
