DirectTV subscribers: There's a chance we lose SunSports

Post#1 » by salqaddoumi » Fri Oct 21, 2011 10:11 pm

There's a dispute going on between News Corp (owns Fox programming) and DirecTV, if they don't come up with a solution than we lose a bunch of channels by November 1st with the most important of those (for me at least) being Sun Sports since they carry all Heat games and league pass blacks out all Heat games since it's a local market.

It would also suck to lose Fox Soccer Channel since that channel shows 90% of the soccer programming we get.

Details are here: http://www.ourpromisetoyou.com

Call up and complain. I'm definitely telling them I'm changing providers if this happens. You can type in your zip code there and see all the other channels you'd lose as well.

Same bs happened to dish last year, they'll resolve it before any actual time is missed.

That's what we thought about the lockout, too :(

They're just asking for more customers to drop their services. These public negotiations only hurt their consumers, who have already begun searching for alternative sources to watch games. The ONLY reason I pay a subscription is to catch live sports, everything else is available online.

As always, you can find links to games online. If you aren't stuck to a ball-and-chain contract like I am, I would encourage you to jump ship and explore online options. These days, you can find a stream quicker than you can flip a channel, and a cable from your computer to the tv costs next to nothing.

That's an awful alternative, for me at least. Quality of video, buffering, inability to record to a DVR all come into play. It's just not as reliable as always having the game set to record on my 50 inch HDTV with no risk involved. I'm rarely ever home during start times anyway, DVR is essential for me to be able to record games and not miss any of it.

I'd rather break contracts and switch providers than rely on online streams. Same goes for Fox Soccer Channel, games are Saturdays/Sundays starting from 8 or 9 AM, no way I'm waking up that early on my weekend. A DVR makes it possible to wake up whenever I want and watch the games.
