2011-12 Thread: FA, Rumors, Trades

Post#1 » by GameTime_3 » Sat Nov 26, 2011 9:09 pm

Use this thread for everything 2011-12 unless you feel it really deserves it own thread.

Small rumors, possible trades, etc...

The off-season should be quick with alot of small smokescreens and rumors.

I'm still confused about the whole thing, but do we have MLE this year? If so, I think we really need to pursue Dalembert.

Yes, we have the MLE. But this will most likely be the last time we can use it until the Big 3 ride is over. Brian Windhorst explains it all here: http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/7283642/nba-owners-concessions-benefit-miami-heat-mike-miller

Rumors on Twitter say that the Heat has told Miller through underground channels that he's gone...

Fine by me, he's made of glass and we needed him against Dallas but he can't **** knock down ****. We signed the wrong person, should have gotten Korver for cheaper.

if you are referring to IamaGM or whatever his twitter handle is....he is reposting the information from this article:

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamihe ... ike-miller

we initially thought we would need to amnesty Mike Miller but under what appears to be the new structure of the CBA it looks like we will not need to and we will still be able to use our MLE.

from that article for those of us.... (AHEM...) who only read headlines:

As of just a few days ago, the way the proposals were set up, it appeared certain the Heat would have to use their amnesty clause on Miller immediately just so they could add to their roster. The Heat currently have $65 million in salaries for this season before signing Cole. At the moment, they also have no point guard under contract, applying pressure to re-sign Chalmers as well because the free agent point guard market is thin.

But they couldn't afford to do both and stay under the luxury tax line, which is expected to be right about where it was last season at $70.3 million. The owners wanted to make any team that was over that line unable to use the full mid-level exception, including if using that money pushed a team into the tax zone. The Heat are planning on using the mid-level on a center, with their top target believed to be free agent Sam Dalembert.

This appeared to leave them little choice but to release Miller to free up the majority of the $5.4 million he's owed this season so they could make the needed signings. Or at least have the option to do so. There's a reason why Miller put his house on the market recently.

According to league sources, the Heat had planned to waive Miller and had let him know through back channels so he could prepare. This information was not all that secret -- teams in need of shooters were already doing background research on Miller and considering bringing him in. Miller had a number of suitors when he was a free agent a year ago, including the Chicago Bulls.

He may not want to take his house off the market just yet, though. With the expected luxury-tax changes, the Heat still may end up waiving Miller with the amnesty clause before next season to allow them to free up enough space to use the mid-level exception again. But considering they will be paying Miller either way, they would much prefer to have him on the roster and see if offseason surgeries to his thumb and shoulder will allow him to return to his form from two years ago, when he was one of the best shooters in the league.

Why Dalembert if Haywood may be able to be had after he gets cut?

I think Dalembert will come cheaper (coming off a $12 million dollar pay out in the last year of his deal in Sacramento) and also fits better in our faster paced offense. He can get up and down the floor as well as most any big man and also has an adequate back to the basket game. Haywood has more post moves but I think injuries/price combined with fitting in with our core makes Dalembert a little more attractive.

The MLE should obviously be used for getting a Center, but I'd like to see us add somebody that can defend SG's and/or SF's if possible.

That Celtics series took a lot out of Wade, and I'm sure LeBron also got fatigued having to defend Pierce and then Deng + Rose at times.

Not sure if anybody half decent will be there at the vet min. Anthony Parker? Prince or Battier would be great but is a pipe dream IMO.

I read a tweet earlier of a journalist who said he talked to a lot of FA's and there's a lot that would love to play for Miami. For some reason, I have a feeling we're gonna get Grant Hill with the vet min. Even though he seems old, he plays young. Last year he was defending the best opposing perimeter player on each team for the Suns. I believe he was a DPOY candidate.

Again posting it here, but T-Mac is very open in joining the Heat. His top 2 wishlist is CHI and MIA. Dont think we're that much interested in him though.

SAS said T-mac will join Chicago, and tbh he's a better fit there since they are in much more need of a ball handling SG.

If we can get Grant hill and Dalembert I'd be one happy man.

Miami has a big Haitian community ,Samuel would love to play in Miami
all thing being equal ...

But Dalembert can get at least 7-10 million on a open market
can Miami sign & trade Miller or JA plus cash to Sac town..

Let's say in the far off chance we use Miller in a sign and trade... for example: Miller, JA, + cash for Dalembert. After a trade like that could we then use the MLE since the salaries would close to match up and we'd be in the same spot, or does a trade like that render us MLE-less?

If we could do that you pull the trigger on something like that, and then use the MLE on a wing like Battier or Crawford... if thats the only way to get a decent center.

Sac has no reason to trade Daly for Anthony and Miller, but if they were dumb enough to do that we would still have our MLE.
