Wouldnt trading Miller be better than using amnesty?

Under the new CBA teams under the Luxury Tax can take back 150% of what they send out so Mike Miller’s $5.4 million deal in Miami can return $8.1 million in trade salary.

It makes more sense to use miller in a sign and trade than amnesty him.

up to 8.1 million per year if using a sign & trade + no FL income tax + playing for the heat is quite an incentive...

plus we would probably still have the mini MLE to get back a wing like Battie, and still have our amnesty to see what happens after this season.

It seems to me to amnesty a fair contract like Miller's would be a waste just to squeeze out 2 million more for a center and still have to replace him and pay part of his salary..

Problem is; who wants him?

Considering the nuggets dont have Wilson Chandler, JR Smith, or Kenyon Martin. If Nene decides to leave and wants to come to miami, they would be better off taking miller than nothing. They arent quite going to be an attractive destination for free agents, and wont have any leverage to hold on to Nene.

No. Miller's going to be a silly expenditure in that case...

who do they have that we would want that's attainable?

and that's assuming the top teams in the conference would trade with each other

I was being facetious.

Bulls need shooter. Heat has shooter they desperately seek. Miami and Chicago are intense rivals. BBallFreak asks "...who wants him?". I respond with picture of Bulls mascot waving Bulls logo on flag for comedic effect.

End scene.

Come on, now. They want him, sure, but not at that price...

Considering his price and how he performed last year the list of teams wanting to trade for him are low to none, thats not even considering what other teams would be willing to offer in a trade. Think of it like a stock right now Miller's value is rock bottom, you sell high buy low.

No they would be better off taking nothing. As would just about every team.

Its not just the player you have to look at the contract. You would be taking on 4 more years of an injury prone player in his 30s who doesn't have elite upside.

I don't see Chicago improving much with Miller at SG against us. Like I said in the other thread that would mean Miller would have to cover Wade.

Bogans at SG is like Joel at C. Miller is as big an upgrade at that position as Dalembert is for us at C. I'm just saying. They can afford to allow one player to go off with how good their defense is. But now they're getting some offensive production out of the position.

Don't get me wrong...we still beat them in a series. 8-) PEACE.

Yeah the Bulls can have Miller, we'll take Asik. They get their 2 guard, we get a center. Everyone is happy. We eliminate them from the playoffs again.

WTF if we trade Miller we take a step back we have no other back up SG stop thinking like we thought last year it's about little pieces not stars like NENE lets get dalembert or maybe Tyson Chandler but not waste pieces on Nene. Now don't get me wrong Nene is the best choice for us if we could get him straight up but if not then okay we need a shot blocker and a solid defender in the middle not a scorer.

I like Asik, but Joel has Spo's heart and knows Spo's system so, he isn't going to play as much as we think.

We'd have no back up for WADE who gets more tired than LBJ and that is not good at all.

Unless we pick up VInce Carter for vet min lol.

Try to at least suggest trades that have some merit for both teams and would at least be considered. Asik is so much more valuable than Miller for almost all teams.

There idea of trading Miller, due to the new 150% rule, makes sense but I can't think of any team willing to take on his contract since he doesn't play full seasons anymore and his offensive output has declined. Heat can see if Miller can be what they hoped for last year and if he is not then amnesty him after the season.

If we were to get rid of Miller, it should be through amnesty, not trade. Him & Haslem took less money to be here, & trading him away while he still has that discounted contract isn't right. Plus, it doesn't show the loyalty we pride ourselves in, part of the reason why LBJ & Bosh came in the first place. I stay still keep him. We haven't seen the best of him in a Heat uni, & he still can shoot & rebound better than anyone outside of our stars
