MIAMI— As expected, the Miami Heat's first taste of basketball in lockout-shortened 2011-12 will come against the Orlando Magic.
The NBA on Friday released the two-game, home-and-home preseason schedule between the Southeast Division rivals. Each NBA team will play a pair of exhibitions against a geographically convenient rival.
The Heat will host the Magic on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at AmericanAirlines Arena and then play Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in Orlando at the Amway Center.
During typical seasons, teams are allowed to schedule as many as eight exhibition games. Prior to the lockout stretching through five months, the Heat had been scheduled for three home exhibitions, as well as preseason games in Memphis, Detroit and Houston, and neutral-city games in Raleigh, N.C., and Kansas City.
The Heat and Magic may not have their complete rosters for either game. The NBA free-agent signing period in advance of the lockout-shortened 66-game schedule will begin Dec. 9, the same day teams start training camps.
The Heat will open the regular season Dec. 25 in Dallas against the Dallas Mavericks.
Individual tickets for the Dec. 18 game will go on sale Saturday, starting at noon. Every seat in the 400 Level is priced at $10.
Tickets can be purchased at HEAT.com, Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster locations or calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX. Tickets will not be available at AmericanAirlines Arena until Monday at 10a.m.
