Just saw a tweet and his agent pretty much said he isn't going to be open-minded about going anywhere unless it's a team he wants to play for, so that definitely helps the Heats chances. With that said, he'd have to get through the amnesty bidding for the Heat to even have a chance. I don't know how likely that is.

Only teams under the cap can bid, pretty much all teams with space or non-contenders. This could almost be too good to be true. Definitely gives us something to follow.

Its really simple, if a team bids for him, we're SOL.
If nobody bids (perhaps because of his agent's threat that he wouldn't play for them), we try like hell to convince him to come here.
That's all there is to it.

I'd love to see Billups next to Wade but like Heat1114 said, seems too good to be true. You'd think some team would at least throw the vet minimum at him to keep him away from teams like the Heat and Lakers.

If Billups is dropped and then he gets pissed off at the Knicks, he will look for a team in the East to get back to the Knicks.

If he's gonna put up a fuss why bother, keep in mind it's gotta be a team with cap space. A team like Indiana or Sacramento isn't going to bother.

Might not be good for Norris if we sign Chauncey but I'd love it if we did, big **** you to the knicks if we get to sweep them in the post season with billups starting

Thing is you only get Billups for a year if you pick him up anyways. If we don't get him now, I think we'll get him this summer because he will want to punish the Knicks.
I wonder if Denver will try and bid to get him back. They have no one on their roster, and he's very well liked there.

This is weird as hell, but it almost might be a good thing if Paul goes to LA, because it raises the likelihood Billups would come here.

Yeah, but I can see a team picking him up with the intentions of trading him. I'm sure Riley or the Lakers would throw a late 1st round pick to get a starting caliber PG.

Has this issue been discussed? I doubt S&T's would be allowed on amnesty pickups so that would mean a minimum of 60 days until teams could trade pickups if at all.

There are definitely some big fish teams drooling at the possibility. It isn't likely he falls all the way to a position where the Heat could pick him up this year, but it is not impossible. There aren't too many teams with cap space that are contenders so his agent may hard-ball most of them out of bidding for him so it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Either way I'm sure that the situation has Riley's attention.

Question:
If someone picks up Billups and agrees to pay like $5mil for him a year;
Can he be traded?
If he can be traded, what cap number would we work with? His current Knicks contract or his new reduced contract?
Because if it's the new contract, you can then trade Miller for Billups...hypothetically.

Agent Miller on Billups: "He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers unless it's a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware."

False. I think one of the biggest downfalls in the raising of Chalmers is that he never quite had a vet PG to show him the ropes. This could be extremely beneficial for both Chalmers and Norris, long-term.
Would love to have Billups here.
