Complete Details of Wade's Summer Workout

Wade has enjoyed the sports-specific movements the most, especially the latest one Downs incorporated only a few days ago to strengthen his spinning fadeaway moves in the post. In a criss-cross pattern, Down applied resistance bands from Wade’s right wrist to left knee and his left wrist to right knee, with bands between his ankles, in order to simulate a defender bumping him on the block. The first day Wade went through the exercise, he stayed in the gym 40 minutes longer than his designated workout time to fight through the added pressure, and he finally mastered it. Downs said that even during an exercise where he had Wade shooting leaning back while standing on one leg on a balanced disc, he made more baskets than being flat-footed.
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamih ... in-lockoutWhile we saw videos of LeBron's workout and heard about him going with Hakeem, I'm glad to finally see what Wade was doing this summer. The article also mentioned building muscle to protect his left knee from further injury. I'm still hoping Wade comes into this season at least with the 08-09 confidence he had in his jumper and utilizes that much more.

Bosh should weigh more than that...
but Wade is going to blow by more people than usual this season
I saw him struggle against team defenses like the Bulls, I think this time it would be easier.

It's good to see him work on his balance. Wade is a rhythm shooter and in order to gain one, you'll need good balance because otherwise, your body will move into wrong directions and you'll miss your shots. In 08/09, part of the reason his jumper was working so well is because he always had great balance on his shots. Look for him to be a much better jump shooter again this season.
I'm also glad to see Bosh work on his lower body strength, as it was one of his issues last season when facing bigger lineups.

Reading that and hearing Wade scored the highest of any athlete he's ever had doesn't surprise me. Wade never did great in things like vertical and straight speed but he's got great functional athleticism, things like quickness, change of direction and explosiveness.

Before they really went to work, Downs put Wade through a test to see how his body would respond to different attributes that define an athlete: speed, torque strength, overall power, agility and athleticism. Downs said that Wade’s combined score, 97.2 percent, was the highest out of anyone he’s ever worked with.
"He’s one of the most naturally strong and athletic athletes there is," Downs said of Wade. "His level is just very unique. He gives credit to other guys, like he’ll say, 'LeBron is also unique, and Derrick Rose is unique.' I’d put those guys in the same category. There are other guys, of course, like Steve Nash, but they may not have that explosiveness -- not across the board like Wade.
I also like this bit as I felt Wade has been recently underrated from a physical aspect simply because of his age, but people don't realize he has less miles than a lot of peers.

Excellent article. All these people assuming Wade wont be able to play into his mid-30's due to his playing style really underestimate his work ethic.

I often wonder if people realize Wade is only 6-4. What other guard that size in the history of the NBA has been able to protect the rim like he does. It is almost insane how good a rebounder and shot blocker he is at his size and that has to be largely attributed to his athleticism.
Like an earlier poster stated most people simply look at vert and top speed as the two leading indicators of Athleticism, when in fact the most important factor in being basketball athletic is the ability to change speed and have explosive bursts of energy. Wade is one of the best all time at using his speed properly to take advantage of different angles on the court.

Yea Wade is 6'4 3/4 which is why I always find it funny when people say hes undersized especially when you add to the fact that he has a 6'11 wingspan(Which is only an inch smaller than the likes of other SF's like LeBron and Carmelo).Even then it's still amazing like Moggs said that he's able to be such a great shot blocker despite not having "elite vert",I think he just has excellent timing for it.

He's also a very quick jumper. Just look at how he sometimes drives, misses but then gets right back up there to put his miss back into the basket.

I never really put much stock in any of these off season workout filler articles. They'll use it as part of a narrative if the season goes well and just forget about it if something goes wrong.

No way is Wade 6'5. Up close he seems less than 6'4

Yea at 1:17 is a good example of how wade jumps comes down and can jump back up almost instantly..

I read this article yesterday as well, and saw it was posted here.
There is a lot of talk about offseason workouts, but that being said I'm still anticipating how he will look this year. He mentions that this is the best he has felt since the beginning of the Beijing Olympics. That was the precursor to the 08-09 season, the year I felt Wade was at his athletic peak. He was noticeably leaner that year to if you watch some the game footage from back then.
The thing that has always impressed me about Wade is his physical strength. I think his physical strength impresses me as much has his quickness. He is literally pound for pound one of the strongest NBA players (maybe athletes now that I think about it) I've ever watched.
It reminds me when Wade was playing the Wizards in his second season in the playoffs. There was an SI article about him (when he was emerging as a superstar), and Jared Jeffries said, "Its not so much his speed its his strength, you hit him and he barely even moves". One of the most underrated aspects of Wade is his post defense. You simply cannot move him, I've seen bigger players unable to back him down and forced to shoot jumpshots or kick the ball out.
Its one of the reasons he's such a great post player himself (along with his creativity and great instincts). Its good to see he's improving on his turnaround jumper in the post. I hope Spolestra uses Wade in the post more. I think he was really underutilized there last year and he is one the best post players on the team. He routinely attracts double teams down there, and the team has a dearth of back to the basket players as it is.

Everytime Wade went to the post last year, good things usually followed. All this talk about LeBron in the post, I feel like they need to be pushing Wade in the post more than anything. He's already much more better in that aspect than LeBron is.
