Re: Heat Extend Spolestra
What's the point in extending him now?
If he sucks you can get rid of him at the end of the season and if he's good you can keep him because its not like he is going to be offered a better job.
I hate this move.

Conversely, by extending him, you raise his and the team's comfort level. If you want to fire him, you can still do so at any time, Arison just has to eat a few million.
I really don't see the negative here.

Yeah pretty much that. Removes all speculation / distraction he'd otherwise be attracting all year.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

keeps the team focused and spo focused. The media wont make his contract running out a story now that its been extended. Could you imagine the flak he'd be getting if the heat went on a bad streak while in his contract year?

Pretty clear that the extension was to reaffirm his confidence and security.
As much as I dislike Spo sometimes, this is a strong strategic move.

Double conversely (lol) I don't want Spo to get too comfortable. He's a hard worker; keep that carrot hanging out in front of him don't just give it to him before he has accomplished his goal.
Arison isn't on the Cuban/Buss/Allen level of spending. Not that I think a contract buyout would preclude Arison from cutting Spo but I do think it would make him take more time to do so and give Spo more slack.
I just don't see how his performance last year warrants an extension this year. I don't think he did as bad a job as some people on here and didn't mind keeping him on for another year (mainly because of a lack of a replacement). On the other hand I don't think he was as good as people like HIF thought he was so I don't think he deserves a replacement.
I think we as a team underachieved in the regular season and lost to an inferior team in the playoffs. We played poorly in close games and our offense while good, was inconsistent despite having two of the best offensive players of all time and another offensive all star.

You're welcome LeBron.
Tyler Herro is a TURD.
Bam is NOT elite but is getting better.
Fire Spoelstra!
Josh Heupel is coming for you.

-- When asked if the Heat had interest in Gilbert Arenas and James Posey, who are now free agents through amnesty, Riley said, "not right now."
That's good to read. Didn't want Gilbert anyways.

We can still fire him before the contract ends right?
If so, I like this move because the team/Spo don't need that contract extension hanging over their head's.

Just like when the Dolphins extended Tony Sparano.... Its all PR basically, if Spo messes up extension or no extension he will get relieved of his coaching duties.

Buss is nowhere near the open wallet Cuban or past Allen was especially considering the income the lakers get vs the other teams

Re: Heat Extend Spolestra
This doesn't surprise me. Spo said that his contract wouldn't distract him but now it looks like he's gonna be stuck here, whether we like it or not.
Though I wonder if people will flock to firespo.com again this season

I agree and Arison isn't even at Buss level. The income he makes from the Lakers is part of the equation just like it was for Steinbrenner in baseball. The point is he still was willing to spend some of that income instead of just pocketing all of it.

This is inconsequential. If there's another season of pick-up basketball offense, recycled rhetoric and willful stubbornness that results in another year gone by with no parade on Biscayne, he's out anyway.
At least, he damn well better be.
