I did this on another college basketball board and it was fun especially when the board blowhard who thought he was the authority on all things basketball came in 76th.

Anyone who wants in picks the victory margin for each game (negative if you think we are going to lose).

Then I'll total up how far off everyone is from the true result and keep track of it for the whole year.

Some examples:

If you pick +5 against the mavs and we win by 15 you get 10 points (points are bad in this game).

If you pick +5 and we lose by 5 you get 10 points + 2 points for getting the winner wrong.

If you pick -5 (predicting Mavs by 5) and we lose by 15 you get 10 points.

If you pick -5 and we win by 5 you get 10 points + 2 points for getting the winner wrong.

If you pick +5 and we win by five you get zero points (again points are bad).

Points are capped at 23 for margins (so one 40 point outlier doesn't fark anyone over). You also get two extra points if you get the winning team wrong so you can get at most 25 points. If you miss a game you automatically get the max 25 points. You have to have your pick in before the game starts otherwise you get the max 25 points.

Anyone who wants to take part just post your prediction for the Dallas game before the game starts and I will add you in. Anyone who joins later will get the 25 points per game they missed. I will add my pick tomorrow so I don't influence any of the other predictions.

I actually suck at this because I am overly optimistic but who cares its free to enter and nothing is really at stake.

If you would like to help please quote other prediction posts so they can't be changed later on. I will do the same but the more quoters there are the better. I hope no one would cheat in a free contest with no prize but some people are just really sad so with some kind of safe guard in place hopefully discrepancies will be at a minimum.

So if you are in just post your prediction on victory margin against the Mavs (+5 means we win by 5, -5 we lose by 5) and quote anyone else's prediction that hasn't been quoted yet.

Hopefully a lot of people are down, but I'll run it even if just a handful want to do it.

It's not my idea, I blatantly stole it from another board lol.

I'll try to post standings as often as possible, which I am hoping to be after every game.

For my prediction I am a torn because I think we will either blow them out or lose a close game. If I had to bet on the spread I'd take us but I'd take the Mavs on the money line.

I'll hedge against a close Mavs win and take the +5 (that was my original thought to hedge so I'll stick with that, but after seeing the other predictions I'm tempted to go the other way from everyone and take the -1 for the lead on day one)

Someone quote this post and any future prediction posts up until the as close to the start of the game as possible in case I can't do so.

For those with a pick already in, if for whatever reason you want to change it make it in a new post quoting your original post well before the game starts. Don't wait for the last minute.

And if you have more text in your post like I do bold your pick like I did
