Mario Chalmers Deathwatch...

How many games into the year before Mario is backing up Norris?

I know Cole helps off the bench--but Mario kills the first team with his idiotic stupidity. He single handedly killed like ten fast breaks for us. He shouldn't be allowed to dribble the ball past half court. Just go run to a corner to shoot.

Don't know if he'll be moved to the bench, Heat would essentially have paid Chalmers 12m to backup a rookie...

I think he'll continue to start and Cole finish.

Cole has been a bright spot on this team, he should continue in the role he has been playing, slow down on this "instant gratification, instant criticizing" attitudes, season is 2 games old.

We missed like 16 games, we have a lot of snap judgments and criticisms to make up for

no he starts the fast break with all his steals he started he won't have 5 TO every game. Plus we need Norris with our bench he is the only person on the bench not afraid of the ball.

They need to stay with this line-up, let Rio get his assist and steal in the starting line- up and let Cole be the spark off the bench! Let Rio find his confidence in the starting line-up.

Poor Chalmers, since minute he stepped on this team we've been trying to replace him. Oh well.

Cole should start. Honestly, you start and finish with your best lineup. This JET theory is broken IMO. Why claw back points when you can come out to start with a lead? Clawing back points from Bibby/Z last year was painful. I like being out in front and blowing a lead over trailing and working to come back.

I think Cole should start because he is clearly the best PG we have. Rio can backup like he did tonight. Let's be honest, we didn't miss him in crunch time tonight. We all wanted Cole out there and on Rondo. We want Cole out there on Rose and CP3 in the clutch. Why not let him start too?

As it is now, there's no problem. If letting Rio start keeps him happy, then so be it. He will be bartered around in trade packages with Joel and Miller, while we try to get a center. Arenas is still out there as a backup, if we need one. Rio's days are numbered on this roster. This should be evident to anyone. But while he's here, his active hands and fearless nature in the clutch are a welcome part of the team. If Cole gets in foul trouble, I will not feel bad about Rio stepping in, because I know he's capable. He just had a bad night tonight. PEACE.

I don't get why people want Cole to start. That means Rio will come off the bench and do exactly what off the bench? He is not a PG, he isn't going to bring a lot of offense to the bench like Cole can.

It's best for Rio to be a spot up shooter with the starters and to lob, than for him to come off the bench.

I think Cole should get the majority of the minutes though, and be at the game at the end.

But not start.

Just like how the minutes were split today, that's exactly how I'd like the season to go.

Chalmers needs to continue to start as he's our only (relatively) reliable 3-point shooter that fits our starting lineup. Cole is great at coming off the bench so far - injecting more pace into the team which is a real positive for the 2nd unit. Of course, Spo can use whatever lineup he likes to close out the game - Cole worked for us last night; at other times I'd expect Battier, Jones or even Miller to feature as they all offer something a little different.

Come on guys! let's not start this this year! We are the best team in the league and unless trading him can get a starting double-double @ center then we leave the team and lineup like it is. No to arenas. Cole and Chalmers are better as a 1-2 punch! Both of them are quick and combined for 8 steals. Chalmers was trying to impress in the second half and made some bonehead turnovers. By sharing the time they will be fresh and able to apply pressure. we are a team and if we stick together all year we will win the championship!

You guys are way too critical of Chalmers! He made some ugly plays yesterday, so what it happens. But he's still a good player that plays well with the Big 3. He sets up a lot of fast breaks with his steals and deflections, and he's a knock down shooter! He might not be a traditional pg like Cole, but the Big 3 dont always need that out there with them. Rio starting is the right move, allows Wade n Lebron to set the tone of the game early. And if I'm not mistaken, we've gotten off to some pretty good starts so far.

Chalmers is not the best PG but we need Cole and Haslem to bring points off the bench.
Eventually, maybe next year or the year after, Cole will be our starter (he's starter material) but right now, we need to do what's best for the overall picture.
I'm hopeful that Rio will feel the Heat and start practicing and playing his ass off!

Well, Cole said he likes coming off the bench because he sees how the game is going and he can talk to people like Juwan and someone else (a vet... I think it was Battier?) and then go from there.

Wow, I am actually impressed that it took until game 2 for someone to start this thread. Reminds me of the Magloire over Anthony or Beasley over Haslem threads from years past.

I just can't understand why does it have to be one or the other? As long as Spo plays both at the right time, who cares which one starts the game? The season is only 2 games old. We are 2-0. Chalmers needs to play better and Cole needs to learn to adjust once he starts seeing different defenses thrown at him. Our PG position as a whole needs to work collectively. As for starting? That will take care of itself eventually.

Please let's not dog one player just to praise the other. Both play for the HEAT and as fans, we should want both to succeed through thick and thin.

Enjoy the moment!
