All-Star game in Miami?

I know we had one here in 1990 at the Miami Arena, but has anyone heard any plans for it coming up in the near future? I mean, we got the new Triple A in 2000, which I know the NBA likes to have them at... Such as the Amway Center in Orlando this year.. Just seems odd with all things considered, we don't even seem to be on the radar any time soon. I believe next year its in Houston again(it was just in Houston a few years ago), and Toronto the following year.

Have you guys heard anything in regards to this? Orlando is only a few hours away so I may try to go... I've never been to an All-Star weekend/game, but would love to go to my first and only in Miami one day.

Micky Arison has said that there was always an issue with season ticket holders and access or something. In addition to that, traffic downtown is already miserable; could you imagine what it would be like with the entire NBA World in town? Pardon me while I vomit profusely.

Hmm I never heard that, thanks. I agree traffic is awful.. But we have had the biggest game of em all, I believe the most times in NFL history in Miami for the Super Bowl, granted it's in a different part of Miami.

I really think it should happen sometime soon. Traffic can't be what's stopping it, its not like it isn't hectic in other cities.

The players would love it too, 3 days in Miami?

yeah it was here in LA last year, and I stopped by, it was not bad at all.

I wish we had it but I think it's more logistical than anything else. There are lots of events happening in the area around that time of year.

Wont be anytime soon. I thought about this idea when the Big 3 first formed but then I realized that the Magic are hosting it this year, and they will probably want to move it to a couple of different regions before coming back to Florida. I wish it'd be here I think the arena and location are great and would amazing for local businesses downtown.

Iceburg Slim was on the right track. Micky Arison has a big issue with the league basically taking over the whole arena to accommodate league sponsors and leave very little for the team to reward season ticket holders. He said it was more of a hassle with very little financial benefits for the team. Maybe he will change his mind one day but as of now, it doesn't seem to be an option they would like to explore.

As far as the city is concerned, I do think traffic is something worth mentioning but it is not a show stopper. The city hosts festivals that gather more people and survived. Another thing Miami lacks is the large hotels with convention center space and meeting rooms like LA, Vegas and Orlando. Maybe if they build the proposed casino/resort at the Miami Herald site the league would make a push for it. Right now, they have other cities that are more than willing to bid for the All-Star weekend celebrations.
