Quote from Jerry West
"I was talking to Pat, and I told him, 'Don't walk away from something,'" West, the Hall of Famer who called Riley his "best friend," said Wednesday in a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida. "I would be shocked if he did (anytime soon). . . If I were him, I would stay there and watch them win championships."

is Riley considering retirement or moving out in Miami?
Riley and West are friends thats why think West knows something we dont. Maybe Riley is considering walking away thats why West is telling him not to.

Thoughts???

Don't think so. Why leave when the team is better/deeper than ever.

I think it was just Jerry telling Pat what he already knew.

Pat's gone on record as saying he is right where he wants to be several times in the past year. He seems to be in it for the long haul.

This just looks like something said in jest, I don't see any reason why Pat would leave outside of health concerns. Besides it says right in that quote "I'd be shocked if he left any time soon"

No way. This dude is going to be with the Heat until he can't walk anymore or until Wade, LBJ retires (assuming they stay with the Heat for the rest of their career).

From the same article...

"They've got two of the three best players in the NBA," West said of James and Wade. "I think they can win numerous championships."

West is a guy who should know. He's been a part of seven NBA titles, one as a player, four as a general manager and two as a special consultant to the Lakers.

West was general manager of the Lakers from 1982-2000. That tenure included Riley winning three of his four coaching titles with the team.

Riley, who also coached the Heat to an NBA crown in 2005-06, works on year-to-year contracts with Heat owner Micky Arison. Speaking to the media last month, Riley did not indicate any desire to retire anytime soon.

"Where am I going to go?" Riley said. "The lockout, to me, drove me crazy. . .The Arisons have been great to me."

I got scared there for a moment. Pat Riley is a legend the things he has done for this Heat team will NEVER be forgotten.

I could see Riley calling it a career in another 3 or 4 years after Miami has a couple of championships. IMO, he is going to see this team through and leave the rebuilding process to his successor. Now, I know Nick Arison is going to run the show but a bigger question is who is going to be in charge of Basketball Operations when Riley leaves? Chet Kamerer? Would they hire a young GM?
