What a warrior!
Ira Winderman
Quote:
Erik Spoelstra revealed after the game that Udonis Haslem has played the past five games with a small cracked rib, an injury sustained last week in Minnesota in a collision with Ricky Rubio. "Why did he have to tell you?" Haslem said with a smile, upset Spoelstra had ratted him out. "It's fine. It just a small break on my side. I'm fine."

How can it heal if he hasn't taken any time off?

His shot was off before that (they said the rib happened against Rubio) but I'm sure that will become the narrative 30 games in if he is still shooting poorly. I think he has been better shooting since the rib break.
My main problem isn't that he is shooting so poorly, that happens. My problem is that he keeps shooting so MUCH still. There is no way he should be taking so many shots on a team like this when he is shooting so badly.

Well an open jumper should be a gimme, and they run that pick and pop with Haslem a lot.

And he still gets 10 rebs a game..... more than a healthy, taller Bosh LOL. UD is a boss.
But his jumper... needs work. We'll see how it is in a month.
But I do agree he shouldn't be shooting so much if it's broken. Just a few for rhythm but other than that..... no.....
he is great cutting to the basket though

He's such a warrior. And I love that fact that its not just Heat fans that say that, so many other players and fans respect what he does for this team. Nothing is going to slow him down, sometimes I think he's more determined to get back to the championship than anyone else, since he couldn't help as much as he wanted last year.

That's pretty badass.. not sure if anyone knows how painful a cracked rib is... He must be getting shot up with a load of pain killers, because otherwise it hurts to breath.

Wonder if he will rest it at some point?

Spo would have to enforce that, Haslem will never ask for time off. He's a warrior on a mission this year. He seems to be playing fine, although I'm sure it hurts. But I think he'll continue to play through it.

I agree that it should be.
But if you are shooting that open jumper at a below Joel level (24% on jumpers); you shouldn't be taking that many shots, especially on a team with several players who should be taking more shots (Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Chalmers).
Haslem has taken as many shots as Chalmers, who has been shooting lights out.
He's been rebounding a lot better this year, he should be focusing on just crashing the offensive board instead of floating around the perimeter shooting jumpers.
Focus on his strength. The extra possessions will be worth more than the jumpers he makes.

While I admire his heart I do have to question the mentality of the coaching staff. Why not let UD heal properly and be ready come the later half of the season? In the mean time let Lebron play some mins at pf and it gives battier more playing time to get used to playing in this team?
