Do we have a free throw coach on this team?

If so, fire him.

If not, hire one.

Also I'll use this thread to keep track of games we lost based on absolutely atrocious FT shooting.

Hawks @ Heat - January 2nd
Heat go 19-28 from the FT line - 67.9%. They lose by 8.

Heat @ Warriors - January 10th
Heat go 26-40 from the FT line - 65%. They lose in OT

Heat @ Clippers - January 11th
Heat go 20-34 from the FT line - 58%. They lose in OT.
Notably awful - LeBron James going 9-17 from the charity stripe.

players that attempt 8-10 fts/games, should make at least 80% of them imo

watching this team lose because of fts sucks

This team only beats themselves. Sad really.

I think this is a wake up call.

Wade and LeBron are worthless when it comes to FT shooting. I see no difference between having those two taking a technical FT for us, and having Shaq/Chris Dudley taking one.

Bosh is 80% on his career. This season he's just 42-58 which is 72%.

Shane Battier is 74% on his career. Thus far he's 5-11 (45%). Small sample size, but awful nonetheless.

Norris Cole was 85% during his final year in college. Now he's 13-17 for us (70%).

I bet you if we signed Billups he would shoot around 75-80% from the FT line. :banghead:

They don't need a free throw coach, they need a zen coach.

Someone who can calm them down, maybe play some tranquil beats on the bus/plane rides, and serve as a calming, meditative influence in the lives of these young men.

Nerves is the issue, mental power, concentration---> not skill.

As a team we shoot 75%.

AT 75% you are going to have some games around 60% over a 100 game season. Its random fluctuations.

You guys just remember the bad times because they stand out.

And btw teams shoot 72% AGAINST us. We shoot our free throw better than teams do against us. You guys just only remember when we shoot poorly.
Your emotions fuel the narratives that you create. You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe. You ascribe meaning when it is not there. You create significance when it is not present.

Sucks? How about inexcusable from a PROFESSIONAL stand point. I remember a time when they were FREE points.. Hence free throws, go figure!

14 missed in the game.. 8 for Lebron. Between that and not boxing out, maybe get back to the basics??

For a team that racks up fouls like we do, we need to maximize these points. KD, Rose and Kobe milk these FT opportunities. This is something we complained about last season, though, and it hasn't gotten better. With fewer practices, I see this as a continued problem. I don't think the guys get to practice FTs too much, the just have shootaround. In shootaround, they probably shoot more from the perimeter than from the foul line. That's my guess as to why our shooting has actually gotten worse this season.

Wade and Lebron do need to work on their FTs though. Bosh is fine. He's had some bad games, but he ususally shoots FTs well. Wade and Lebron get to the line so much that they are just giving away points right now. They'll also increase their chance of injury this way as guys will see it as better to hack them than let them get easy buckets. Still, not sure how they can improve their FT shooting without taking time outside of practice/shootaround to work on it themselves. PEACE.

Basically, if we miss our free throws and the other team shoots 40%+ from 3 we lose lol

I really don't understand FT issues. In my opinion no professional player should shoot less than 80%, it's an incredibly easy shot. The issue with FT's just like all the other problems I see with this team is focus. The way were closed the last two games was almost comical. If we just got out of our way we win each game by 10 pts.

Put em all in a phone booth with no top to shoot free throws from during practice.

LeBron making rare appearance at Heat optional practice. Hmm, thinking a little free-throw practice sounds about right.

Just saw LeBron sink 17-of-20 free throws. If it makes you feel any better.

I'm going to need video evidence. Not just for LBJ, but the entire team.

LeBron says his goal was, and is, to get around 80 percent from line this season.
