HEAT Should go hard for Kaman

Kaman not with team tonight w/Hornets playing host to Orlando. Coach Monty Williams tells reporters Kaman shelved so youngsters can get PT

I think if HEAT could get Kaman it'd almost be over, not only would it make another reliable avenue to score. It would open the big 3's game up considerably, no more center double teaming our guys. They'll have to sit on Kaman who has a deadly mid range and can get in the paint and score. He can also rebound. His defense can be spotty, but I'd much rather have another option for scoring, as Anthony basically doesn't provide much more D against big centers anyway.

New Orleans might be looking for expirings for him, but I heavily doubt they find it. Maybe just getting a couple of pieces in different spots would entice them to deal him to us.

Something like:
Miller + Anthony + 2012 1st Rounder (MIA) + (Optional) Terrell Harris
for
Chris Kaman

If HEAT could get something done to acquire this guy I'd be so excited, I'm not sure how you guys feel but I think something like this could be realistic, I mean it would definitely be an option if we were willing to give up Cole but I don't think we are willing to mortgage our future just yet.

Just found out he's an expiring contract, argh think there's no chance now.

This and only this.

I wouldnt do Chalmers for Kaman straight up let alone Miller, Joel, a first rounder and Harris.

Even with that one good game Miller still has negative trade value. He has a contract bigger than the full-MLE in a league where most of the top teams can't even spend the full MLE. Plus it lasts 4 years.

No team would give Miller that contract today and no team would give us even just cap space for Miller. He has negative trade value. We would have to give up assets to dump his contract.

Joel has marginal value and Terrel Harris has zero value around the league. A late first round pick has very little value (they are often just sold)

There is no way New Orleans would trade Kaman for that package and any Heat fan who wouldn't do that trade is insane.

You guys always try to trade our quantity for other teams quality. Teams don't want our quantity.

Kaman is an expiring contract. The hornets wouldn't even trade him for this package if Kaman was the worst player in the world (the expiring is worth more for them than having to eat Miller's contract for 4 years)

But not only is Kaman an expiring he is also a useful player. He can also play center.

I had fleeting hopes for this when the trade to NO happened. I figured he wasn't in the long term plans and, being an expiring, he'd be on the move.

However, as a serviceable man at the 5, I have to think they can get some palatable offer to ship him somewhere. I can't see a buyout unless he's willing to leave big money on the table (unlikely).

I'm not really for trading for him since we'd then have to look to resign him at whatever inflated rate any decent big man seems to get and we'd be losing viable pieces in the process.

To be clear, Jazz checked on Kaman some time ago but doesn't make sense now. Detroit likes him, needs center. Most teams have found Hornets asking price for Kaman too high. "They were asking for draft picks, cap space and a young player," one executive says.

Don't count on it.

We need to offer 9.5M in salary to match. I don't think we need to trade that much for Kaman. I'd rather hope for a buyout. PEACE.

Just wondering, say Kaman receives a buy out, we pick him up for the vet min. Then come the offseason can we only offer him the mini MLE and nothing more? I think you have to have someone longer than a year to retain their bird rights.

So even if we got him it'd be a one year signing and help us for this playoffs alone, he'd likely get offered 5-10m somewhere else.

With such a high asking price in draft picks, cap space, and a young player, I doubt that they move to buy him out. They gain nothing by doing that. If we want him, pieces will have to be moved.

The hornets will not buyout Kaman, he will either be traded or play out the season.

I was wondering the same thing. Anyone know how much the Heat would be allowed to offer him to re-sign in that scenario?

This.
Stern won't buy Kaman out and let him go to a contender. He will rape a big market team of their young assets for him.

If we offered a trade, Stern would say: LOL BOSH + COLE + 1ST ROUNDER TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT MIAMI. That's probably what he;d say.

So no. No way we can match the League owned Team's demands (Young Player + Picks + Cap Space).
