ok. He thinks we are not a zone team, and zone somehow shows we were not ready?

I dont get that, and as a team zone should be practiced in case it needs to be used later on when really needed. I dont see why not. Its a legitimate defense in spurts in today's league. Heat know that the most.

Saying its the defense of a team not ready is a cop out.

oh, and I don't care about the mild insubordination or whatever. That's trivial. I care about the mindset regarding zone more than anything.

I think its one of those "machismo" things, more than anything. Agreed its not necessary though, and better to get practice on the zone in a meaningless regular season game, before you get to a point that you need to use it and haven't worked on it.

We have some of the best man-to-man defenders in the league. There is no reason why we should need to resort to zone, especially when a zone will only serve to amplify our rebounding woes. I understand the need to switch it up sometimes to change the pace, but against the Hornets? Hell nah.

I'm also assuming it was a 2-3 zone, which is vulnerable to three pointers, which is...

Oh yeah, that's our biggest defensive weakness in the first place.

How bout next game instead of mopping around for 15 minutes and waiting to get down 12 pts, Wade just comes out with energy from the start. Watching this team as much as I do it was obvious exactly what was going to happen after the went up 12 and we called a timeout. Wade and Lebron went nuts and the game was over. There is really no reason we can't just come out like that and then ease off.

This,this,this,this.

I'm tired of seeing the lackadaisical starts when we all know they are capable of blowing out teams in the beginning, blow out teams early and rest later.I'm glad they didn't leave it until the 4th but I'd rather them start strong and play even less in the 3rd and obviously sit out the whole 4th.

Just like during the championship game 7 when riley wanted to run something and Wade "mildly vetoed it" - we have the talent to win it all.

If they just play hard for the first 3 quarters every night, then just take the 4th qtr off. We have the talent to put teams away by 3 qtrs.

+1000

And what i take from this intersting article is, sadly, Spo's lack of feel for the game. i totally get why Wade felt like he did, i wish Spo would understand these dynamics better.

We have a high-BBIQ team. The Big3 are great, and then you have someone like Shane that's just all-around bright guy. Cole is a naturally-smart kid too, though inexperience nerfs that pretty hard. If Spo wasn't open to suggestions and feedback from the team, he wouldn't be a good (or smart) coach. There are decades of NBA experience on the team (half in Juwan alone LOL). They're bound to have good ideas too. PEACE.

Im glad Wade called it off...2-3 zone is for pussies...the heat play excellent man to man defense and rotate better then any other team in the league.I really do believe they play down to their competition. It isn't fun for them if they go up 20 points straight from start...They want a challenge so going down 12 makes it interesting...Its annoys the hell out of us but it makes the game fun for the heat lol

I'm glad Wade didn't panic like everyone else seems to do when the other team runs zone, he was able to stick to the game plan and find his shot. I hate that others go zone and LeBron just won't make his own shot, he just passes it around. They're going to have to become masters of beating the zone come playoff time, because they'll see a ton of it.

LeBron says chemistry with Wade, 'at an all-time high'

There has been plenty of ball movement between the two over the past three games, with nine Wade assists for James baskets and five James assists for Wade baskets.

Many of those passes have resulted in spectacular plays.

Mostly it's been Wade-to-James that has provided the ultimate theatrics.

"If there was one guy that I've thrown the most lobs to in my life, it's been LeBron, from All-Star games, to Olympics, and obviously playing with the Heat," Wade said.

"I kind of have a feel for when he's coming. I hear him trucking out of the corner of my ear. I see him and he's the kind of guy that you can just throw it up and he'll get it."

Erm... Hornets were hitting from all cylinders and Spo's reaction is to give them even more room when they were clearly hitting shots and not really driving in the paint... isn't that what zone is for? To stop team penetration and it's beaten with 3's?

Glad Wade said no to it.

I already knew he doesn't listen to Spo sometimes.

However like someone else said, just coming out and crushing your opponent is the better way to go. Instead of waiting to go down by 12....

Jordanesque move from Wade.

By which I mean, it was totally a matter of ego and machismo. And it worked fantastically.

This is why Wade is a great leader. Loyal to his coach but is not afraid to speak up and he trusts his abilities and his teammates abilities to get the job done.
