With the way he has played and constantly injured himself, I think he'll be lucky to get even 20,000 points before he retire. LeBron and Carmelo are both going to end up with more total points than Wade. I honestly thought that Wade would someday be in the top 10 list of scorers of all time simply because of how fluidly he's capable of scoring and breaking through opposing teams defense, but as sad as it is to say this, Wade will not have the opportunity to play enough games due to being injury prone in order to accomplish that goal.

I think a more likely goal is 20k.

Sounds like you're being overly pessimistic, Wade is completely capable of maintaining at least an average of 24+ points a season for the foreseeable future (especially if he gets his money jumper back) however, it will depend if can make the necessary adjustments to his game in order to stay healthy.

He's not even averaging 24 points a game this season, how can you say he will for the foreseeable future?

Sure you can say that he was hurt but injuries are a large part of career points. This season is a third over and he only has 300 points.

It took him 8 seasons to almost get to 14k points and he's already 30.

I would bet against 25k points. Too many things can happen

I did the math and if he keeps up his scoring of 20-25 points a game for atleast 5-7 years including this year without missing a game or missing VERY few, he can.

I mean, he'd have to have a reliable jumper though... he's obviously going to lose speed and athleticism. But he's good in the post already, but he has to have a REALLY reliable shot when he's approaching that age.

If he does, he can break it. At around age 35-37 DEPENDING on his pace.

Granted, he doesn't have a bad injury...

Why is that "sad"?

Lebron is on pace to get it faster than any other player (I think). Why is it sad that there is another guy who is going to get 20k points too? Especially since he is on our team.

20k points is still a lot.

That was me countering with a bit of optimism, but then again, I never really put a stamp on whether or not he'd reach 25k. I stand by what I said though, 24 ppg+ is possible if he makes the necessary adjustments (ones that an aging superstar sg should be able to make).

20K seems likely, 25K does not.
And it didn't take Wade 8 full seasons to reach 14K points, he missed damn near a whole season when you take in account of the games he missed from 2006-2008. If you just measured by the number of games played and minutes he has played at the rate that he scores, Wade would had been up there with LeBron in total points if he didn't missed so many games.

Do postseason points count? Assuming no, the question is:

Can Wade play 6 more seasons beyond this one averaging ~20ppg and playing ~75 games each year? If so, then yeah, he could hit 25K points.

His ppg this season looks to be creeping up (23.2ppg since coming back from injury, in short minutes), and I don't think its crazy to expect 3 more seasons in the 20-24 ppg range. But could he then keep it in the 16-20 range for another 3 seasons beyond that? And stay healthy throughout? Not out of the question, but not likely either.

Still, its possible, unless his production just falls off a cliff.

If he develops both a consistent post game and a consistent J, then yes, I believe he will.

I think more than the issue of whether he will put up enough per game, is the issue of whether he'll play enough games.

He could get to 20k+ if he chooses too. I think rings mean more to him than how many points his career ends with.

No chance to get to 25k imo. He's never really cared much for volume scoring except that one year he lead the league cause he wanted to prove he was back. Used to drive me crazy in his early years where he would have 40pts through 3qtrs and end up with like 44pt cause he shut it down. I think he's only topped 50 twice. Now with teammates like Lebron or Bosh there is ever rarely a need to score tons of points on a regular basis. It's just not his game.

I say no because of the injuries and he lost his jumper. He won't be able to drive when he gets older so unless he works on that jumper which he LOST, I don't think so. I would love for him to prove me wrong though.

It took him 8 seasons to get to 14k points. You don't get credit for time off in total points. That's kind of the only reason why people are saying he won't get it.

Nah its just regular season.

And 6 seasons of 75 games each year seems like wishful thinking. He only reached that 5/9 seasons (even without the lockout he wouldn't have been able to get 75 this year). No way to expect him to have 6 seasons in a row in his 30s when he wasn't even doing close to that in his 20s.

Ask any player if they would rather have Karl Malone's career or Jud Beuchler's. I know which one I would pick.

Well, we could also assume that if we asked Karl Malone if he'd trade a lot of those individual accolades for a championship he'd do it ASAP. Besides that, I pretty much agree with the rest of what you said.

Sure he would trade some but not all, that's the point.

And he definitely would not trade all the money.

If you told Wade he could go from 25k to 24k but get an extra ring of course he would do that. If you told Wade he could go to 5k and be a role player but get 5 extra rings he wouldn't do it (nor should he).

No one would do that, even though some rah-rah fans might say they or one of their favorite players would.
