Heat's Cole out, Brandon Knight in for Rising Stars

I don't really like thishttp://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/blog ... 8569.story"In the end, Miami Heat rookie point guard Norris Cole came up short, quite literally, when it came to the selection process for the Rising Stars Challenge to be held during NBA All-Star Weekend.
With the rookie class loaded with quality point guards, Cole wound up being shut out in a bid to participate in the event previously known as the Rookie Game. Among those selected from this season's rookie class was Pine Crest product Brandon Knight, the Detroit Pistons point guard drafted out of Kentucky.
Other rookie guards selected ahead of Cole for the event included No. 1 overall pick Kyrie Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard out of Kentucky, as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio and Charlotte Bobcats' Kemba Walker. The depth among rookie guards was so deep that even Sacramento Kings' lottery pick Jimmer Fredette was not selected for the event to be played Feb. 24 in Orlando.
Cole, selected at No. 28 in the 2011 first round out of Cleveland State, had an unexpectedly strong start to the season before tapering off with his play in recent weeks."

Meh. I saw this coming when Spo started limiting his minutes. His production is going down. I would have taken him over Kemba, but I can understand all the other selections. There are a lot of guards, and Cole not starting or getting heavy minutes makes him a tough choice. PEACE.

Irving and Rubio? No doubt.
Knight? Meh, I guess.
Walker? Now you're pushing it.
Kemba - 28.5 mins per game, 12.4 ppg, 3.5 apg, 4.1 rpg, 1 steal, 2 TO's, 36.7% from the field. Worst team in the league.
Cole - 20.5 mins per game, 8.2 ppg, 2.4 apg, 1.8 rpg, 0.8 steals, 1.7 TO's, 41.3% from the field. 3rd best team in the league going by percentages.
Not a huge statistical difference when you consider the roles/minutes these guys play for their teams.

Oh well.
I mean he has been good, but he has so much to learn still.
If the voting or whatever ended after the Boston game, he would have made it.
Every now and again he does some things good, liked his game at Philly, but other than that... I can understand the snub.
But Brandon Knight and Kemba (Kemba who did get a triple double this season) have way more opportunities than Cole. Then again both are on very bad teams.
Oh well maybe next year or something, the sophomore game lol.

Kemba goes through more defensive pressure in a week then cole will all season. Context bro, their roles are different. Kemba has been starting most of the year

dont worry cole will be in next year after he plays a huge role in our run and his name gets out there even more.

No problem with that at all to me. We all love Cole because he plays for the Heat but lets be honest, he's been very inconsistent and sometimes irrational with a lot of his game play. I wouldnt of mind him in the game to represent Miami, but Knight is having a better year so far. Cole will get there next year with some more experience and coaching.

It's not such a bad thing. Cole needs rest more than a meaningless nomination. The rookie game isn't anything to build a legacy on. Making the all-star game is what he'll want, and very few make that in their first year. I'm surprised Kyrie was selected for this game. I thought he'd be in the all-star game. He's certainly one of the best PGs in the east. PEACE.

Would've been fun to see him in a fast paced game like that but I'm fine with him not making it. Didn't really deserve it, it's a deep PG class this year.
Hopefully this pisses him off and motivates him.

Understandable.
Hopefully this fuels him to play better.

im getting tired of coles play. he started off great but i think that little hype he gained has gotten into his head. he takes ill advised shots, passes into double teams and sometimes just breaks the entire flow of the offense. last night he got a rebound and ran straight down court at full speed and got blocked. he gets blocked a lot. wade should pull him aside and tell him to relax.

I think his role on this team though is to come in and be agressive. And he does that. He ups the speed, and is always in attack mode. You need that in the role Cole plays. He just needs to polish up his floater, and get his 3 point shot consistent. I swear he looks like the fastest dude in the league sometimes. He is a blur out there. Which is great to have off the bench. Remember for all of the rookies this year they're doing it with no training camp, and not per se in the best condition they can be to play this many games. The rookie wall is hitting some of these guys over and over.

I'm not hopping off the Norris Cole war wagon. I'm gonna ride this bitch 'til the wheels fall off. He needs to work on his 3pt stroke, because he doesn't space the floor like Rio. Defenders don't respect his shot like Mario's. He's also gotta stop shooting. It sounds weird, but he should only look for his shot late in the clock. Under 6 seconds, fine, create for yourself. Otherwise, he needs to spend the time probing the defense, and trying to get guys open.
I'm noticing that off the pnr with Wade or Bosh, they're leaving him pretty open to shoot. His jumpshot isn't reliable enough right now for him to be pulling the trigger at the rate that he does. He needs to develop some Rondo and use that opening to dive into the teeth of the defense, looking for the pass the whole way. Rondo wasn't very good shooting, but he'd use that space to attack the rim and cause the defense to collapse. A guy like Nash could pullup and drain that all day, but Cole has to be more Rondo right now.
In this condensed season, he doesn't have a great deal of time to practice, so he needs to get reps on the full repertoire of shots. However, he really needs to find a better balance in his selection. PEACE.
