A breakdown on some of what's going on with our improved halfcourt efficiency. It gets into what Spo was talking about earlier concerning the horizontal spacing and read/react elements of the offense.

A couple of quick bits...
That’s why this set, the corner set, is a huge reason Miami scores more points per possession than any other team in the league (.943).

In half-court offense alone.

The HEAT needed to be able to manufacture good opportunities without relying on ball-handling creation.

“It’s important for us to have continuity, rhythm offense where everybody is involved,” Erik Spoelstra said. “When we get stagnant, we go to that, and there are a lot of reads. Guys can use their IQ, they can help each other, they can make the game easier for each other.”

Think of the corner, Spoelstra’s version of the famed triangle offense, as a simplified version of a run-blocking scheme. The offensive line sets up to push the defense in a particular direction, but it’s always up to the running back which manufactured gap he’s going to hit. Once the handoff is made, it’s up to the back to read how the defense has been manipulated.

This was on the ESPN sidenotes after the Kings game:
The Kings spent almost the entire first half trying to contain the Heat's potent half-court offense in a zone. On paper, that was a solid game plan to slow the Heat in the half court. Miami scored on 42.4 percent of possessions against zone defenses entering Tuesday. However, Miami torched Sacramento's zone, scoring on 61.8 percent of possessions.

Heat Half-Court Offense vs Zone, 2011-12
-------- 1st 32 Gms -- Tuesday
Poss/Gm --- 5.8 ----- 34
PPP --- 0.91 ----- 1.38
FG pct --- 42.9 ------- 65.4
eFG pct ---48.0 ----- 75.0

All in all, I like what we're doing to get better shots and easier baskets.

Thanks to LeBron's improved post game, Mario/Miller's lights out 3 point shooting, and Wade's improved off-ball movement, we're a much better half court team than last year, and its really showing right now.

Over the span of these last 7 games, our offense has never looked better. We're relying less and less on hero ball and now have a much more balanced offensive assault.

Needless to say, we're kicking ass.

Im getting flamed because of this comment, but i still think that Spo is very underrated by fans. Imo hes doing an EXCELLENT job and its finally showing. To get the best 2 players with a similar game/skillset to play this well together is no easy task, and thats not even counting getting them to accept new roles, and managing a rotation this deep..... Props to Spo.

Love the fact that it isn't ISO, ISO, ISO, ISO, Hero ball. They are figuring out how to attack the defense and doing it relentlessly. The half court really has stepped it up the last couple of weeks, I love it.

Our ball-movement has improved dramatically on this win streak. Someone made a comment last night (after a turnover) that we are passing too much, and trying to be too flashy zipping it around the perimeter. That's a good problem for this team, IMO. We can cut down on the turnovers, but the fact that everyone is getting touches on each possession (even Joel) means that we're getting much better looks at the basket. PEACE.

Lately we haven't been ball sticking, especially from LeBron... who in the 1st maybe 10 games looked like the ultimate ball stopper. It was making me pull my hair out.

They still try to go iso every now and again, but it isn't bad at all. Ball movement is at an all time high.

I hate when people say "to beat the Heat, play a half-court game to slow them down"... yeah well, our half-court game has improved BY A LOT. Then there's improved shooting by Rio, post play by LBJ, and Wade even in the post.

We're also the #4th team in FT shooting. If we continue to shoot 80%-85%+ in FT's for the next few games, we can be the #1 team in FT's. How crazy is that?

Top 3 (changes between Denver, OKC and Miami, but mostly Miami has been on top and changing with Denver) in offense, #1 in FG%, #1 in 3-point percentage (don't take a lot, but are efficient at it), then next #4 in FT shooting.

DAT OFFENSE

then our defense when it's AT IT'S BEST (not just spurs, or lollygagging around) is the best!
