LeBron, Defensive Player of the Year?

Post#1 » by socks fit OK » Mon Mar 5, 2012 3:17 am

Anyone else possibly seeing this happening? Dwight's usually wins but with the trade request it seems like the media might be down on him. And the way LeBron can defend 1-5, especially the way he took Gasol out of the game today, how does he not win it?

He's definitely a candidate...just not sure it'll actually happen.

He'll get 1st team all-nba defense, but Dwight is a sure lock for this type of stuff for years to come IMO.

He's going to have to shut some stars down though later on if he can even be into consideration. Like Durant, Melo, too bad he didn't have a shot at guarding Kobe today...

If he could win MVP and DPOY that would be so epic, because he certainly has a strong case for it. But like DefenseWins said, D12 most likely has DPOY on lock once again.

He's a candidate and the job he has done on PF's and even some C's is praise-worthy, however has no chance.

That was the voting from last season. Dwight blew everyone out of the water. I thought LeBron's defense was very good back then but even Grant Hill (WTF?!) had more votes.

He should get All NBA 1st Team Defensive. It'd be an accomplishment if he got 2nd place in DPOY voting IMO.

I just need a Heat player to win Finals MVP and I'm happy.

Laker fan here..While I'm not sure that he is as much defensive impact as Dwight, I think he is a fantastic choice for DPOY and his versatility is remarkable. Only guy in the league that could play good defense on the perimeter, on the inside, and as a help defender. He isn't the best in any of those, but he's pretty damn good in all.

even Iggy got more votes than LeBron. LeBron has shut down Iggy everytime they match up, especially last year in the playoffs... sigh...

then again, it's when the level of hate for LeBron was really high. It has calmed down, even the media saying he should be MVP more so than last year.

I guess we can wait and see. I mean, last year I don't think we saw shots of him guarding Dwight or Pau. I don't remember at least.

Lebron finished 2nd in voting in 2009
But in his home dwelling...the hi-top faded warrior is revered. *Smack!* The sound of his palm blocking the basketball... the sound of thousands rising, roaring... the sound of "get that sugar honey iced tea outta here!"

Unfortunately, his defensive impact, unlike the rest of his game, doesn't translate into stats the way it does with Howard for example, at least not into your usual numbers, which are the ones most voters use. His versatility and great instincts combined with his consistency should definitely make him a strong candidate, but I fear most of those media tools will vote for Dwight just because of his fancy numbers and because it's the easiest pick. His consistency is really the most impressive aspect of LeBron's defense though. While D-Wade, for example, is certainly capable of having the same impact, he tends to be too lazy against low competition. LeBron always appears to be dialed in defensively. Nonetheless I'm pretty sure the award is Howard's again.

Ultimaltey, those individual accolades don't matter much to me, at least not anymore, even though it's always nice to see a HEATer win. Most of it is based on agendas and politics anyways and the only one you can actually earn yourself is the Larry O'Brien Trophy and the Finals MVP, which are my only true goal for one of our guys anyways.

Not true...

The media has been pretty behind LeBron this year OTHER than the whole closing out games stuff.

Wow, didn't know that.

I remember hearing people last year say he never played as well defensively for the Cavs as he did for the Heat. Not sure if that was true because I didn't follow him in Cleveland too much. Like Defense Wins said, it might have been the 'hate effect' last season. As I said, Grant Hill WTF?

The media has eased up on LeBron but I'd still put my money on Dwight.

Kind of OT but after these past couple of games (Including vs. Portland) I realize how crucial Bosh is to our defense.

@coolstorybro , I feel you. Bosh anchors this defense it seems. We haven't been able to get as many stops as we'd like. We don't have a 6'11 athletic guy disrupting everyone and getting a rebound.

In the last 3 games, we've been able to get back into games (WHILE STARTING THEM OFF SLOWLY...) but the last 2, we couldn't keep anything going and couldn't get more stops.

A year ago, Bosh wouldn't have had this type of defensive impact. He really has made some strides in the defensive department.

The reason Bosh is so important to our team is not solely because of his abilities but also because we lack the depth at PF/C due to Haslem's poor play this season. We're pretty stacked at the wings with Battier, Miller and JJ coming off the bench, whereas right now, we're desperately searching for consistent or any production at PF/C other than Bosh and, to a much lesser degree, Joel.

He had a better case last season. I don't see him getting it this season. Oh well, he can settle for MVP 8-)

It'll probably go to either Paul George or Roy Hibbert. Hopefully not Hibbert... I really dislike him. Paul George is the only likeable guy on that team. LeBron does have a shot, but I don't see it. Much better case last season.
