The Buyout Thread

After coming up with absolutely nothing at the trade deadline I figure that we will be active players if there is a buyout sweepstakes.

Here's the deal...

A player who has spent time in the league this season must be waived by March 23 in order to be eligible for another team's playoff roster. He then can be signed any time prior to the final day of the season, similar to the process the Heat used to add Mike Bibby a year ago.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... 2193.story

According to media reports we either have interest in or may be interested in:

Big men:
- Chris Kaman
- Jermaine O'Neal
- Marcus Camby

PG's:
- Derek Fisher: Traded to Houston. Could be bought out.
- Anthony Carter: Waived by the Raptors

If we wanted to sign a guy that has not been in the league this season such as Rasheed Wallace or Dan Gadzuric the deadline for doing that is by the end of the regular season.

I don't want another old PG on this team. I don't care if Cole is chucking, atleast he is fast. Maybe have an old PG be a back up, but no minutes man... it will be like Bibby all over again. Our defense overhelping is enough, let alone having to help an old PG try to defend a young PG. JUST NO.

JO I don't want man. He was already here, left Boston to "contend", GETS KNOCKED OUT BY US and was injured all season anyway, and to come back when he left he was shooting like 20% in the playoffs... DO NOT WANT.

Kaman... it would be a dream, but apparently wants to sign with Boston right? Unless he wants to sign with them in free agency...

Shoot, I'd take any big that's waived. Atleast a guy who can bang with bigs. ANYONE. Denver could waive a big man... they got 3 and 4 if you count Anderson.

I think Camby has an injured shoulder. But I'd take him too.

I remember when Fisher got traded to Houston, tweets were saying that he was probably going to get bought out. Seems likely. Riley will put him in a Heat uniform, judging by how much he likes his vets and all.

lol Houston just wanted the 1st pick then? Even if he's bought out, I'm sure the Heat will keep that roster spot open for a big... unless absolutely nothing happens...

Camby won't be available. Houston moved Hill and needs a backup Center. Camby will be that as they are a playoff team.

I say, pick him up and take him to a Benny Hinn healing session. YOU ARE HEALED!!!!

I was just about to bring this up. Mickell Gladness needs to be waived (if he hasn't, already) and Greg Oden needs to be signed immediately. There's your cog for the future, right there. He'll heal up just fine down here in Miami. His ceiling is still very much higher than any center we have right now, though I would be wary of a potential Chris Kaman buyout.

Really, you all think he still has a future? Even though he'll have surgery after surgery? He definitely won't make an impact this season if we did sign him. :(

are you serious man... sign Greg Oden who just had surgery who won't make any impact whatsoever?
Might as well just play Curry.

Come on people....

Hey, I did say we should take him to a healing session.

And no, I don't think he'll be coming here...or anywhere right now. Teams might wait until the offseason to see where he's at.

Sign Oden anyways. Maybe some different doctor's is what he needs.

He would probably still be better then any of our centres even in his current state

He has to clear the waivers right? If so, you would think there has to be some teams out there that will roll the dice on him.

He won't contribute this season but I'd take him. At least he has an ounce of potential. Can we say the same for Gladness and the other scrubs riding the end of our bench?

I dont know if we should sign Oden, but if possible, find a way to show commitment to him for the future, kinda like what we did with Curry. He wont be healthy for almost a year from now, but he might be able to help in next years playoffs after getting acclimated around february.

Other than that, the first step has been made regarding Kaman. Just need him to be bought out and choose us over Boston. I swear, if another free agent we want chooses Boston over us I'll flip. Murphy went to Boston and got no playing time last year while he would've had a role here.

What's the point in signing him if he's just going to sit on the bench as well?

about the doctors thing, that's a good idea but I don't know.

I'm all about getting a Center who will contribute right now, not another waiting game...

I thought Pittman should have played more last night though, he was doing good.

Oden would be a signing for the long term, similar to Eddy Curry (Yeah I know, not too reassuring right about now)

The priority remains to get Kaman or some other Center that is bought out. I'm going to be furious if someone we could use is bought out, expresses interest in coming to the Heat, and then the team says, "We feel like we have enough to compete as currently constructed."

Please suspend me for 2-3 days if that happens, because I'll be going nuts and you guys don't want to be around that.

Whoever center we may sign, Spo won't play him over Joel (Curry, Pittman and Gladness can't even get 5 min per game)...so all this hoopla about the trade and buyout deadlines is pretty moot. Fire Sporon !!!

I doubt Pat thinks that. He was trying to get Pryz, where's Fesenko? lol, Oden BEFORE the surgery, KWAME, anybody. He was desperate and trying, he knows this team needs a Center.

Then making Eddy Curry lose all that weight... lol.

Curry should start getting burn man... I know Pittman has been good too but not enough minutes and fouls too much, but atleast Curry has had more experience, despite never being a good rebounder, it's better than what we have now if he becomes better than a bench warmer...

argh this season being shorter doesn't help either with having them try to get into some sort of groove and get playing time.

We could be shooting bricks all night long and be down 3pt on the last play that Spo would not even think about inserting James Jones aka the best 3pt shooter in the game. What makes you think he'd play a big guy when his small line up is getting outrebounded badly (i.e last night against the Bulls). This coach could be missing hole while foaking that he would not even adjust while watching the girl getting bored ...
