Patty Mills

I really don't understand why we're looking to get these old fossils in that can't contribute. I mean Turiaf is alright because he can still play, but Fisher has lost it, and the only reason people want to sign him is for experience, wisdom etc. That's crap, if you want those things you have them in Wade/Haslem/Howard etc.... You have that in coaches. You don't need a guy who has nothing in the tank to sit on the bench and tell you good job after each play.
What we need is these other assets outside of the big 3, that when they get a bit older will have experience and can start taking over for the "old 3".
I see so many advantages of going after Patty Mills if we really need that 3rd PG over going for Derek Fisher.
Just to rattle some off.
- Youth
- He can actually play at this high level, he's had games of over 20 points and decent assist totals
- He'll work hard to get better and prove to the coaching staff he has what it takes. And it will have the Chalmers affect on Cole, who will have to push harder if he wants to be that backup point guard.
- He has 3 point range, shooting at 36% from 3 point line for his career
- He's one of the quickest PG's in the league, he has the ability to defend faster smaller point guards.
I've just quickly rattled off some advantages of going for he, he's a nice young player, he can be acquired for the vet minimum. San Antonio can't be the only pursuiters otherwise they'd of signed him by now.
I felt we should of drafted him that year, he fell to 55 after being very good the year before.

This is what I am saying man, plenty of players out there that can help the Heat, not just fossils.

I think we can find someone good in the draft next year.
Cole... I like him but thinking about it, he's a bit undersized, shotjacker, low %, and isn't the spark off the bench we all hoped. Luckily in this league the undersized players can dominant games... if they jack up 3's lol.
Jarvis Varnado could help us without Juwan Howard... maybe Pittman gets experience, Curry goes well. Center out of the draft... who knows. A trade...
It just sucks that people aren't willing to sign with us as much as we'd like. It's only the people who want a shot at a title without really helping... screw that "being a coach" crap. Does he help the rebounding situation or Center position? nope.

Cole is only jacking shots because everyone else on the bench sucks...at least he shoots, honestly when he shoots, good things happen, like an offensive tip in.

Varnado is like 6'9.. he doesn't help us at Center.

Well perhaps, all indications are that he is. But why hasn't he? It was meant to be a done deal but something ha snagged it, perhaps Miami have interest that is going under the radar.

Yeah haha, part of the reason I was praying we'd pick him up. So that I could cheer my fellow Aussie on, but for some reason we passed him up and Portland the team who had a bunch of PG's took him and stashed him on the bench.

That's an inane rationalization for jacking up shots at a low efficiency

Any proof or are you just making it up?
I'm leaning towards the latter.
I could just as easily make the opposite claim that the majority of Cole's misses lead to fast breaks for the other team.

I'd rather Cole jack shots up than not. The guys around the big three HAVE to be aggressive in looking for their shot, otherwise they won't get any and we won't get any production outside of the big 3.
I like Cole a lot. He's just a rookie so all this is new to him, and he hasn't had a training camp or an offseason to put it in perspective. I think he needs to perfect a floater, get his 3 point shot up to Rio standards, and get better at finishing with contact. But the tools to be a really good starting pg are there.
Right now he's a great change of pace guy off the bench, and always gives us something defensively.
We don't need a 3rd PG.

How many times have we seen Cole be aggressive on the break with lebron trailing and he ends up having to adjust his shot and Lebron clean it up.
When Cole misses, somebody more likely than not is there to clean it up, sometimes somebody isn't there, but it is better to have aggression off the bench than play hot potatoes for a Haslem brink.
Cole being aggressive leads to points, people act like he's just running around and throwing clanks off the rim and the other team is blowing the Heat out.
Cole is missing fastbreak layups with trailers behind him, or he is missing a layup in the paint in the halfcourt with someone there to rebound.
He isn't chucking midrange jumpshots or breaking open 3s.
It's a missed lay up. In the Month of March, he's taking 4 shots a game. It's only 4 shots, he isn't taking shots from anybody.
And he's learning, so for me, idc if he misses difficult layups, I get pissed when Mike Miller turns down a shot or when Shane is missing open 3s, or when Haslem is missing wide open jumpshots that he has been taking his entire career.
But rookie is being aggressive with this sorry bench and he is trying to put the bench on his back and people wanna get Derek Fisher...smh.
Cole plays the way he plays because the bench is offensively useless, and cole this month is only taking 4 shots a game.

at the 2:00 min mark is a typical norris cole missed lay up
which has 2 heat player trailing him...gets put back by lebron.
This is why idc if he misses layups, his aggression gets easy points.

We should of got him, he's beasting it for San Antonio. Most importantly he's hitting the 3 ball at a 44% clip, he can create offense for himself (Which we lack immensely). Shooting at 49% total, my god did we miss out.

I can guarantee you he would have been horrible if he came here. This is the Spurs we're talking about! They turn scrubs into superstars.

Keep in mind Spurs have an offensive system. We don't.
I'm starting to think it's why people come here and suck. Then they own on another team.
