Video Games/Console Advice

I confess, I am probably the only one on these board that do not play video games. I don’t really want to get involved in playing these games, it’s really for my nephew and cousins when they visit when schools out.

They just asked me what type of games do I have, I don’t have games/console or nothing. Ages 13-19 - TV size in TV room is 46" Budget is $500 for console with 1 game - Budget for games @$40-$50 each.

Only need 1 sports game and 1 other popular game for now

Of course, I am considering the majors

Playstation
Nintendo WI
XBox 360

Thanks in advance for ANY feedback

of course mods, move it if not appropriate

I personally prefer Xbox 360, but you'll have to subscribe if you want to play with people online. That's the only downside, if you're not looking to spend much, whereas its free to go online on Playstation 3.

Sports game - NBA 2K12 any day, any time! (hey, i can even give your cousins some ass whooping online if you don't mind )

Another game - Call of duty: MW3 or Battlefield 3 would be good. That's because it'll get everyone involved at the same time. But that depends on if they like it at all.

I guess the second game really depends on your cousins' preferences.

If it's for casual use, go with the PS3. Wii is awful IMO. And xbox you have to pay to play online. If you don't want to play online then get the xbox because it's cheaper than the PS3.

I love my PS3. The gaming options are great, as is the functionality for other entertainment vehicles. XBox 360 will offer much of the same (with better online play, at a cost), but I like the Sony brand and their exclusives better. Will is cool for a change of pace and casual gaming, but will probably be a bit underwhelming for the age range you mentioned.

You'll be able to come in well under your budget with any of the listed console choices. It shouldn't be a problem particular to games either seeing as how some simple online searching can net you discounts or even looking to the Greatest Hits line of long released games that are significantly discounted from their launch prices.

I'd co-sign on the recommendation for NBA 2K12 as the sports title. The other just depends on what you like; shooters, platformers, adventure, fighting, whatever. I'll mention Batman: Arkham City or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Those make the online gaming more fun. You don't REALLY need 'em, but it doesn't hurt to have 'em.

I wouldn't get that. The 3rd party controllers are pretty bad. You can get a decent logitech mic for like $15 to play online.

Not really those controllers are **** you are better off buying an extra controller when they go on sale at places like Target. The headset you can pretty much use an bluetooth and buy a even better quality because the remote controller and the TV one are a waste of money and you can use USB to charge your controllers.

Thanks for the responses, just got back from Walmart, Target and Sears and just got a little more confused. I was told about a "move' feature, another guy said "get the one that has the games I want and work backward"

ok, I am going to go back out tomorrow and JUST LOOK this time, ask no questions.

p.s. The XBox looks good up close, but I've always heard about Sony Playstation, what I have decided on though is I am going to hook it up straight to my 32" instead with nothing else. I have too many things attached to my big screen and I don't feel like rewiring - cable box, 2 DVR'S, home theater and good old fashioned VCR.
