Greg Oden Interested in Joining HEAT?

Post#1 » by BIRDMAN BIRDMAN » Wed May 16, 2012 2:47 pm

There’s a 24-year-old free agent center who’s affordable, has impressive career rebounding averages and has interest in playing for the Heat eventually once he recovers from his latest knee surgery, according to his agent. The only problem? It’s a very big one: He's not healthy and can't seem to stay healthy.

Greg Oden, 7-0, hasn’t played since 2009-10 and is recovering from his fifth knee surgery in five seasons. A Grantland.com story said that "right now" Oden's plan is to take next season off to rehab, then come back in 2013-14. But his agent, Mike Conley Sr., told us Oden is positioned be ready to play in December or January "as far as being effective and in shape" and will explore options in the coming months, with the possibility of joining a team next season. But nobody obviously can know for sure when he will be ready.

The Heat hasn’t called but “Greg has talked about Miami," Conley said. "He has interest. He’s not retiring.” Oden, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, has played just 82 career games for Portland (which released him in March) and averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.

Oh, and interesting tidbit:

Though Shaq said Bosh has “to take four to six weeks off and is probably out for the rest of the playoffs,” the Heat is hopeful he can return at some point in the Eastern Finals, depending on how he responds to treatment.

We need Bosh back even if it's as a decoy/shooting role.

Expect Bosh to come back in Finals series or not even get to play at all rest of this year.

The injury he has is easy to re-aggrevate and it's actually worse than you think.

Bosh shouldn't come back unless the Heat go to the Finals.

No point of him coming in and reaggrevating it and have to miss even more time.

I wouldn't mind if the Eddy Curry reclamation project became the Greg Oden reclamation project. Presumably Oden couldn't hurt himself sitting at the end our bench.

God this SUCKS not having Bosh on our team right now.. LeBron and Wade are logging in too many minutes and carry a lot of load that Bosh carried.

LeBron and Wade are gonna be GASSED in the Finals AGAIN if we even get there.

I agree with this. Oden in next year's playoff what an upgrade at Center.

No thanks. I'll take Oden in 2 years, I don't trust him for next year. Didn't he say he was coming back in 2 years in that Grantland article anyway? He needs as much time off as possible.

Despite all the question marks, I think there will be a surprising amount of teams willing to make Oden an offer when he's ready to return. The possibility of a franchise center is just too enticing.

This.

Dude is done. He really is just messed up bodywise, he needs 2 years of just rehab, then he probably can't even play bball.

Without a championship this year, talk to me after we've overhauled the offensive system and perhaps the coaching staff. Otherwise, it doesn't matter who we sign.

Fool me once, twice, three times, not again.

we don't need anymore problems or stupid experiments.

I'm sorry but you guys need help if you think it's a good idea to let Oden ride the bench and milk money off of us. Oh please.

I know this was just an article, but I actually remember people saying they would try it out and have Oden on this team.

just dumb.

this guy has BROKEN DOWN PHYSICALLY MAN. not just 1 little knee surgery, HIS CAREER IS OVER. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS.

If he does well in the offseason and proves in some training camps that he can still handle the ball, why not try it? If he wants to come to Miami and given his knees, he shouldn't be that expensive. Yes, he's brocken, but boy, we have Curry on the bench.

You prefere Curry on the roaster than him (if both are in ''basketball shape'')?

Anyone but Joel Antony & Udonis Haslem.

If Oden is healthy we have to take a chance. The dude is probley looking for a 1 year deal to prove his healthy. If he played here, he would only have to worry about his health. If he said healthy with this team, he would receive a huge pay day the following year.

Just too many if's for me - he'd seam to be a liability the way we play defense. IMO

This is another example of why Spo isn't the right guy for the job. Oden would be a great addition for the minimum but like most, I fear we would FORCE him to play a way that isn't right for him to have successes
