Blazers, Hornets and Heat "expected" to pursue Chris Kaman in free agency

According to Ric Bucher from ESPN.com:

The Trail Blazers are expected to compete with the New Orleans Hornets for his services. The Heat supposedly have interest, although they don't have more than a $3 million exception to offer, and Kaman is sure to attract better offers. Despite some frustration with the Hornets last season, a source said Kaman would welcome the chance to return to New Orleans and play alongside presumptive No. 1 pick Anthony Davis.

Pipe dream. I don't think he's gonna bite. He will go to whichever team is going to pay him, which I think will be Portland, since they essentially blew it up at the trade deadline.

I would love to have him on the team. He can really do it all when healthy. If we could keep his minutes down, and keep him fresh, he'd be a godsend for us.

As Bucher stated, we can offer him very little compared to other teams. It'd be a shocking sacrifice.

Thabeet is a free agent, and I'd add him just for his size. I really thought he'd develop better than he has, but I'd rather have him getting splinters then Eddie Curry...

Yeah not happening. "Hey Chris would you like to be a minimum player and win a championship or be a 10 million dollar player in the Blazers and get bounced in the first round?"

What's the best we can offer? Four years at $3m/year?

Hey guys, this is my first post ever. I've been following realgm for a couple of years now for my basketball news and this group in particular for more Heat insight. What if we amnesty Mike Miller this offseason? Would the Heat be able to offer more than $3 mill/year? Mike makes about 5 Mill a season so would the Heat be able to offer something around $8 mill/year if we amnesty Miller?

Nope doesn't help us (in terms of having more money to offer) to amnesty Miller this year.

AFAIK, if we amnesty Miller, we're still at $72.7M. That's over the cap, and probably still over the luxury. We're screwed anyway. We paid the luxury tax this season, so according to Wikipedia, we're only eligible for the mini-MLE which is $3M over 3 years.

I'm starting to think there's no way to amnesty Miller, or that doing so will only be to free a roster spot or reduce the amount of luxury tax Micky has to pay. Last season was the only time amnestying Miller would have afforded us the full MLE. Essentially, last season was the only time we could have swapped Miller for someone of equal value without actually trading. This season, we can only replace him with a mini-MLE guy. PEACE.

BTW, JJ seems to be the worst contract we have. He hardly plays, but apparently he's making $3.35M due to the fact that we pay him twice. Some stupid contract we had him under before signing the Big3.

Hopefully we can use our new rings to lure him to take less money

Lol, no shot. Kaman only cares about money, not happening. I'd love to have him though.

Yeah no sense in amnestying Miller THIS season, it doesn't help us. Last year was the year to do it.

We had to restructure JJ's last contract (ironically all it did was allow us to give Miller more money) so we still have a cap hit for it. That second payment is the cap hit from JJ's old contract

There are a handful of things we can do and have to do...and should do...

1...amnesty Mike Miller
2...trade Turiaf,Pittman and Norris Cole and cash for late 1st or early 2nd...but only for cap relief...that should take us under the tax...so we can use the larger mle

My goals
1.Big... Chris Kaman...pretty well rounded...don't know if he'd go for the 5mil though
2nd option...which is my personal fav...Marcus Camby...led league in rebounding per 48min...STILL!!!!! At the age of 38...plays 22min...can start like Joel but doesn't have to end the game for us. 3mil?
*also Brandon Haywood will likely be amnestied...great big to protect the paint who could come off the bench

2.need a scoring wing or 6th man to help eliviate some of the burden on wade to extend his career...
Free agent option...Gerald Green did a great job in jersey showing he matured and his stats were great...fg% and 3pt% was high(+45% and +35% respectively)...basketball iq has improved and his shot selection has improved dramatically.
Trade options...my focus would be for Aaron Affalo...Denver has a glut of wings now after signing Wilson chandler and according to rumors they are open to trading one. Affalo didnt quite take that next step management thought he would and his contract is the largest and longest. If we can get another late pick either in the trade above or paying for it... I would try to trade Joel Anthony and maybe Shane Battier(only salaries that match) and then the two late 1sts...that gives them a big to back up McGee since Chris Anderson will likely be on his way out after the whole police issue in the playoffs...Battier gives Karl another team player, mentor the young guys, defensive specialist...and then two late
*Wesley Matthews maybe in the same scenario

Backup pg...Patty Mills...offensively...can distribute but when left open can knock down the 3...ask the Spurs... And good fg%
Johnny Flynn...Lebron has said the guy is a baller...has been good at times but loses out to other PG...scrappy

Those are just a couple options...but getting below the tax is possible...and worth it

Duncan hates him and the feeling is mutual yet KG might look at the spurs.

Think of it this way who gives KG the best chance to win a title and make him a starter? Not LA, Not Boston. KG could easily start at C for us
