Spo Learning

Post#1 » by ecnirp » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:22 am

Watching Spo in the presser...

He seems calm and learns from each game.

However, it always takes a loss for Spo to figure things out. He actually agreed with the Reporters..."Yea I might need to play more players. Yea we gotta figure out what to do with Bosh more.. Yea I might throw LeBron at Durant some more." etc. etc.

I made a thread about this before....Spo is still learning on the job. Where most experienced coaches figure out the problem after a half, after a timeout, down the stretch. Spo relies on his experiences first hand and his work ethic. He'll work hard now to figure how to stop the problems. However, he doesnt know how to stop the "bleeding".

I like what Spo has done. He's improved as a motivator. But we're still counting on Spo to learn from his experiences. Understand that the Heat likely (unfortunately) have to take a loss to figure things out.

Barry is kind of killing Spo's offense right now...

I still think LeBron plays WAY to many minutes. Spo has to make a tough decision. Either play LeBron 40 minutes (Guard LeBron the full 40 mins) or if you play him 46 mins he can never guard Durant so he can have enough on offense.

But yea Spo will hopefully figure it out again. He did it against Indiana and Miami. Hopefully he figures it out again.

Spo has been a head coach for how long? And he still needs a game to end with a loss to figure it out? Sorry but these are the MAJORS. You only get these chances so many times. Since Spo became the HC, what has he really changed? Adjustments are still very slow. His rotations are set in stone. His offensive system is ISO basketball. His Defense is exactly what Riley left him, overhelp, protect the paint D. So again, what has he done so good?

My main issue was how OKC just imposed their athleticism and physicality on Miami in the 2nd half. You can't coach energy and will. That's on the players. Tonight's game was one to steal...how many nights is Battier, Chalmers, and Haslem going to provide so much? Film will be watched and adjustments will be made but at the end of the day it's up to the players (and mainly the Big 3) to get it done on the court.

Yea thats the scary part. Shane and others played great. Harden only had 5 points and they still won by 11 :(

But again....Once the game became *tight*...There were some adjustments he could have made. There were times he could have TRIED LeBron on Durant. There were times they could have TRIED Pick and Roll between Wade and LeBron. Back cuts to LeBron. Pick and Roll with Bosh. Etc. etc.

Spo relied on the team to grit it out and the players didnt get it done, no doubt.

But still...he should be more prepared by the next game..

That's exactly the problem. We are in win now mode. We don't need a coach who is learning on the job.

spobot does a terrible job utilizing bosh. im sick watching lebron, wade or bosh standing in the corner not involved at all in a play..

im sorry, but bosh shouldn't be standing in the FCKING corner when he's 6'11 PF, you've gotta utilize him better than that.

that game 7 ECF 3pters were a fluke. bosh is a GREAT mid-range shooter not a 3pt specialist.

Spo gotta watch old clips of Bosh beasting in Toronto.

He was a triple threat type of a player, he was actually a descent posting player down low. Why not have Bosh get the ball in the elbow, and make him either shoot or drive and draw a foul? People may have forgot, Bosh got to the line at least 8-10FT a game. He was just too quick for his position, and you give him space, he'd pop a jumper in your face.

Why not trust Bosh a little bit more Spo? Have LeBron rest 3-4 mins in 2nd quarter and just have Bosh as the focal point of the offense?

Bosh is too good of a player to just catch and shoot.

Fcking wake up spo.

You can "coach" energy by playing more than 6 guys.
Your emotions fuel the narratives that you create. You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe. You ascribe meaning when it is not there. You create significance when it is not present.

You're right Battier and Harden could easily trade numbers. And when Harden was playing poorly Brooks took him out

Spo should start: Chalmers/Wade/LeBron/Battier/Bosh

Let Bosh carry the offense so LeBron can give all his energy to defending Durant. Give Cole some minutes against Westbrook so Wade has more energy in the 4th.

Makes a lot of sense. But chances are that wont happen.

What's ironic is, HE does not trust Cole or his bench because of lack of experience and WE at least I do not trust him because of the same thing. What game in this series has he won for us? Remember when he started DEX for 3 minutes and said something to the affect "you see how that turned out' alluding that, "see, this is why I didn't start him in the first place"

Like someone already said, IT IS WHAT IT IS and we have to lose because of his ineptness.

People will second-guess him all the time, but it doesn't matter. If we win we win. If we lose, go hog wild blaming him for everything from the loss to the ebola virus. None of it makes any sense. There's no one better on the market, at least no on that's realistically better.

When we're up and flying in the first half, the critics are quiet. After the loss, everyone gets to sling mud, though no one could possibly tell you exactly what needs to be done to win. After all, there's a reason none of us are making millions as a head coach.

There are some things that are easy to second-guess, like player minutes. But then you had this same criticism in the Boston series, where anyone who paid attention could clearly see that we had no choice but to play some guys excessive minutes because otherwise we were going to lose.

It's easy to look back after a game and ask. "Why didn't ___________ play more minutes?" Meanwhile, all season long, Spo was ripped for playing ____________ because "he's a scrub and he's clearly getting killed out there."

I think if we ever fire Spo, we should hire someone from this thread. We deserve to wallow in a pit of mediocrity because everyone liked to knee-jerk. Let's get on the guy who's never missed the playoffs and who'd never had a losing season. Let's rip him after each loss, then find someone else to credit after we bounce back with a win.

My criticism: Find a way to manage Bron's minutes. Find a way to get Wade the ball in his preferred spots. Adjust the defense so we don't overcommit so much on dribble penetration...it's why Westbrook and Durant are getting assists. Get a damn FT coach already.

That's it. The loss was down to lack of energy and it took Spo a little too long to adjust the defense to what OKC was doing in the 3rd quarter. It happens. I believe Pop got roasted in a few second halves too, and he's an awesome coach. Everyone loses. It's laughable that we get a new Spo thread after each loss.

We rip the media for the way they handle Lebron, but you guys are equally as irrational with Spo. PEACE.

For The Record - I AM NOT a fan of this coach - PERIOD! - But I have given him his credit and even started a couple of threads supporting him, WIN OR LOSE, I AM NOT A FAN, BUT

I can and do appreciate and respect any defense of him(see my defense of Wade in another thread). I hope the fact that I AM NOT A FAN does not reflect on my posts, conversations, insights or opinions reflected on this board.

Although I AM NOT A FAN, I do not wish him to be fired, one has nothing to do with the other. I wish for him to be IMO "less stubborn"

I know what battles to fight -
