Just how bad do we need a big Center?
I think we can all agree that Camby for the Vet Min would be a good pickup for us, but if we cant get him..how badly do you think we need that big rebounding Center type?
I feel pretty confident that if we really wanted too, we could trade for Dalmbert before the trade deadline during the season, using Joel's and JJ's contracts plus send Milwaukee the draft pick we got from Philly. (around #16-20, first round next year).
Before Camby came up as an option, Most of us agreed Dalembert would be a good fit here. he's a good rebounder and shot-blocker that can finish around the rim. he's basically a younger, bigger, more durable version of Camby.
Would we be better off geting a 31 year old Dalmbert even it means sending away some assets?

I think Camby would require the mini-mle and I'd still do it.
IF we could Dalembert for JJ + Joel + Philly pick I would definitely do it, but I don't think MIL would.

Considering our main lineups involve not playing a center at all, I'm not super keep to overpay for one. And if we don't get Ray, and Mike Miller retires, we're going to want JJ around more than a center.

This. The only teams where we really need a center are LA, and whatever team Dwight is on. I think for the rest, a healthy Bosh can handle the C spot.

Just look at their roster. they have like 5 bigs, all younger and with more upside then Dally. they need to give them minutes.
Ekpe Udoh
Ersan Ilyasova
Larry Sanders
Drew Gooden
Jon Leuer
Tobias Harris
John Henson
All of them are bigs. i have no idea what their GM is doing. i even asked Bucks fans and they said the'll do the trade i suggested. especially if the Bucks are not in the playoffs picture. i just dont think they need Dalembert. Plus, it's the final year on Dally's contract. if they dont move him, they'll just lose him for nothing at the end of season. and it's not like they need him for a deep playoff run.

Ilyasova hasn't been resigned and probably won't resign, leuer was traded for dally, and harris isn't a SF, but mbah a moute is a 3-4 combo. Just to clear that up.
Anyways. I do think milwaukee will be open to trading a big for us if it means we're giving up our Philly 1st. But they wouldn't be the only team open to it.

^ Can you think of another big we'll want not named Dally that we could get with the Philly pick?

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
Difficult to say because there are a lot of big men that haven't been signed yet like Camby, Speights, Lavoy Allen, and Mahinimi.
I'd be down for any of those guys.
Edit: If we get ray, we won't make a move for a big man until we're nearing the trade deadline. I think riley is hoping to see if pittman improves.

Id love to have these guys but i highly doubt we get any of them for the philly pick, except Camby - who is an older version of Dally. i would'nt trade a pick for a 38 year old.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
Yes, getting a starting big with a late teen pick will be a stretch. Houston would accept it if they resign camby, but like you said, trading a 1st round pick for a 38 year old center isn't necessary right now. We'll see how Bosh and Pittman do @ the C position before we make a trade like that.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
As you and others have probably seen, I'm against getting a big in the middle who can't spread the floor. Our greatest strength is getting to the rim, and if we don't have a center they have to respect they can just clog the middle and turn us into a contested jump shooting team. Just like the mavs did last year.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
I don't really think we need a center much right now.. Bosh is more than capable in the playoffs while Anthony can hold the fort down in the regular season.. We're NBA Champs, we really don't need anything but motivation right now.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
Well first of all, we beat OKC because we were the better team. But Center is where we had the advantage oddly enough because it was Perkins vs. Bosh. Their front court was bad defensively. Yeah yeah Iblocka but 1vs1? nope. He is just the best help defender out there.
Now honestly, if we look at the East, then look at the West on who can potential come out, do we really need a Center? Especially our small ball line up WITH Bosh at Center owning everyone.
Why spend so much money on a guy who will probably get 10 minutes a night. It would have to be a veteran guy IMO, like Camby, FOR CHEAP.
Bosh is always our Center at the end of games. One a few times it has been UD or Joel (I'm not sure if Bosh plays Center when UD is out there at Center...).
We need a guy who can shoot at the Center position. Not a lot of free agents are like that. Our draft pick is actually like that, his defense will dictate whether he stays or not.
And oh by the way, WE JUST WON. AND WITH BOSH AS OUR CENTER. IT'S OUR WINNING FORMULA!! Get a vet min Center who is ACTUALLY PRODUCTIVE (CAmby has the best numbers out of all of them) for cheap and we will be okay.
Let's look at the East threats with a Center :
Bulls : Unless Noah goes Kareem on us (He is training with him), we have no worries. The Bulls do not have a go-to buy either. Rose is out. No Rose, no nothing.
Knicks : Chandler. Foul prone, has Amare next to him LMAO. Bosh has the advantage on offense because of his jumper. Bosh will take them out of the paint, it's all good. Carmelo is the one we should be more wary of anway.
Celtcs : I don't know of any Center signing they had. They just got Fab Melo. He's a rookie. 'Nough said. KG will continue to be their Center. We made KG look like prime KG even more because Wade couldn't get through double teams with his bummed knee. We all know that is changing. It's over in 6 if we actually had Bosh the whole series anyway.
We have yet to see Dwight in the playoffs, we beat Indiana without Bosh and HIBBERT was their freakin' Center.
West
Lakers : Bynum and Pau threaten us. But... I really think Kobe stays at 5 rings. Pau might be traded anyway. They have no money to get bench players. Thanks Kobe.
OKC : Perkins... he had a groin problem or something, hip flexor. But even before that, he has nothing on Bosh.
Everyone else : Uh... Duncan ain't going to kill us though he's probably be PF most of the time anyway. McGee? LMAO.
Team defense, stretching the floor for LBJ/Wade, and SHOOTING will make us repeat. Plus our stars aligning. AND HEALTH!!!!!!!

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
The thing I'm worried about isn't Bosh at the 5 position, it's who will play at the 4 position. I don't want battier or james there all season. We would get killed if we were to play Bynum/Gasol while starting Battier.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
If bulls don't match asik and we get ray with mini mid, I'd prefer trading Joel to Houston for a s&t camby at around min mid. Camby's blocks and height make our defense better, especially with wade gambling on steals.
I'm like Global Warming, you can't ignore me.

Exactly. to me it seems we dont necessarily lack a Center - but we do lack a starter caliber big that can play next to Bosh, at either the PF position OR at the Center Position.
Haslem - Sadly he's not a starter caliber PF anymore. He's a PF backup.
Battier - he can probably start as a SF, but at PF he's a backup guy.
Joel - backup Center.
Dexter - backup Center.
Bosh - can start at either Center Or PF.
So what we need to find is a big that compliments Bosh and could start next to him. since Centers are so hard to find and cost a ton now days, we might be better off looking for a starter Caliber PF (via trade or draft) so our big rotation would look like :
Mario/Cole
Wade/Allen (hopefully)
LBJ/Battier/Jones
New PF starter/Haslem/Battier
Bosh/Dexter/Joel
There are quite a few decent PowerForwards around, much more so then Centers. we dont need an allstar, even a Kris Humphries (or someone similar) would be a HUGE addition for us.

Re: Just how bad do we need a big Center?
I think we can get away with 2 mobile tall PFs
a Jordan Hill, Anthony Randolph, possibly Varnado next to Bosh
Our speed is our advantage.
Pittman could be developed for an as needed role when we need a bruiser

I tend to agree. the problem is, how can we get that guy?
Jordan hill - we can't afford him
Varnado - I doubt he's a STARTER PF in the league. most likely a backup caliber player.
Anthony Randolph - well...could be an intersting option. the guy is only 23 years old, has talent, blocks shots..can hit the jumper. he's a gamble..he's not proven.
