Darko interested in South Beach?

If the Timberwolves amnesty Darko to obtain the necessary cap space to sign Batum to an offer sheet, should we go after him for the vet mimumum if he doesn't get picked up by anyone?

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/81592 ... olas-batum

We would have the #1, #2, #4 and #5 draft picks from the 2003 NBA Draft!

Then people would say "it took the top 4 picks in the draft for the heat to win a championship. not impressed" :D

Heat already got one so the observers can go eat coochie for all I care.

I would absolutely go after Darko. He is worth the full midlevel but We dont have the space to sign him. He is not a vet min guy. He was actually productive for the last two with Minny I dont know why they amnestied him. Minny has an identity problem with Love that will continue to let the other players look bad. When Love was out Darko really stepped it up.

Do yall think he clears waivers? I'd say go for him, low risk. He's mobile, can finish, defends, block shots. Maybe he'll get the late jump start to his career here. What better guy to teach him big man skills and instincts than Zo. Again I think it's low risk and he'll be motivated to do well here in Miami.

Riley should contact him and tell him to declare that he's going back home - so no-one picks him up, then sign him for the Vet min.

Darko would be the best center we've had on the team for a couple of years. He has skills but he's unconventional - like our team.

No way other teams let him become a UFA. They'll snap him up before we blink even if its just to get him out of our hands.

Don't be surprised to see him with the Cavs lol.

Can't afford him. Won't make it through the amnesty process. Suprised people haven't figured out the pattern to this yet.

We cannot afford an established veteran big for the mini-mle or below. You have to overpay to get centers. Even bad ones.

Our best bet is to develop guys like Dex and Varnado into solid NBA centers. We won't get one through free agency.

If he clears the bidding, we should grab him but I doubt he does unless teams are really concerned with his atiitude/weight. He would give us exactly what we need though, if he was motivated, good post defense, rebounding, and an ability to finish at the rim.

Dude is like a White version of Bosh lol. If he is available get the whole 2003 crew on this team. Super Heat. But someone will probably get him.

Haywood is also getting amnestied. Another guy who won't make it through the process.

He might actually make it through waivers, Haywood was amnestied as well, teams that want a center might take a look at him first.

Between Darko and Haywood, I'd take Darko. Haywood rebound better, but Darko is 5 years younger. I'd rather get a center who we have a chance of holding onto for the future. PEACE.

When will we know if Darko cleared the Amnesty waiver process?

I don't know if Darko's personality will mesh with the guys, here. He's made a long history of attitude issues and misbehavior on the teams he's played. He's got enough talent to command good money, but the attitude will be an issue. For example, will he pout and sulk if he goes stretches without many minutes?

I think so. Talent-wise yes, but I think Riley passes on him unless he's convincend that he's matured.

The Heat did have the top 3 picks from '92 in 2005 (when they should have at least went to the finals if Wade didn't get injured): Shaq, Zo, Laettner.

But Laettner was as useless as Darko would be today.
Although he's not that bad defensively, he'd clog the paint for Lebron and Wade on offense.
